This is going to be long winded but since this was by far the worst experience I have ever had at a healthcare institution, I truly feel I should share. I want to start by saying I am a mom of 3. I have spent many evenings at urgent care and I very rarely think it is necessary to bring my child to the ER. Tonight, after having a fever for the better part of two days, my sons fever spiked to 106.7. Obviously, I immediately gave him fever reducing medication before rushing to the ER. As a practice, I always take the temp on their forehead and if high, I double check under the armpit. Upon arrival, they take us to get checked out in triage. She continues to try to take my 4 year olds temp in his mouth after I repeatedly told her that doesn't work. I know my kid, he won't keep his mouth closed. She didn't event try to take his temp another way, she just gave him more Tylenol and proceeded to have us wait in the waiting room for 3 hours. In this time, the fever broke. Of course, he took and entire dose of ibuprofen followed by a dose of Tylenol 30 minutes later. Once we are called back, we wait an hour before I just decided to leave and make an appointment with his PCP in the morning. As we get home, his fever is spiking again. I'm beyond frustrated by the lack of care given to my 4 year old son, and the fact that I felt they did not believe this was an urgent matter. We never even saw a doctor. I will absolutely never come back to this emergency room, and if my children's PCP wasn't so awesome I would honestly consider never giving this institution my business again.
Check out this amazing hospital bathroom! Everything was top notch at Highland Park. I came from Seattle to have surgery by a world famous doctor in Chicago. Can’t say enough good things. Responsive staff and good food.
Showed up on time for a five-minute x-ray study. No communication from the staff of any kind. At 30 minutes I asked the front desk to check with radiology staff and was told they would be coming right back to get me. At 45 minutes I reminded them of my appointment time and they grabbed a CT tech who was in the waiting area, who agreed to do my study at that time. No real apology. Just mumbled something about another tech was supposed to do this. After the study, asked for a CD of the images and was told it would take 10 minutes. I walked out at 20 minutes. Seems like customer service is a mystery. Update: this week I had an MRI of my shoulder, and my experience was exactly the opposite. Taken quickly, treated with kindness and technical expertise. My CD copy was ready by the time I quickly change clothes. Night and day. CT did not seem very busy when I was there, although perhaps they had ED patients or inpatients. The attitude of the technologists made a huge difference
Had one positive experience before here with our kids, but today and yesterday was a complete farce. The staff is rude and the rules make no sense. They make you talk with a cranky old man then walk five feet forward to talk with a couple more miserable individuals. What's the point of that? They don't allow kids under 18 to go inside the main area so they have to sit in the lobby by themselves. They can roam around the lobby, but can't sit and behave in a room with their mother who will be in the hospital for days. Chalk it up to another poorly run hospital that operates like a business, but with miserable employees. God I wish someone could open a decent hospital.
Title: Disappointing Experience for a Person with Disabilities I recently had a very disappointing experience at Northshore Hospital in Highland Park, and it has left me compelled to share my thoughts with others, especially those who have disabilities. As someone with multiple sclerosis and its related symptoms, including back problems, relapses, bipolar depression, and mania, my visit to the hospital was anything but pleasant. Firstly, I must mention that I had a distressing incident where a significant amount of jewelry, worth around $4000-$5000, was taken from me. Despite reporting the incident to the police, it was disheartening to learn that the surveillance videos were not clear enough to provide any evidence. This experience has left me feeling frustrated and vulnerable, as a disabled individual in America. Moreover, the overall treatment and attitude of the emergency room staff at Northshore Hospital were far from satisfactory. While I understand that they may be overwhelmed with the demands of their work, I strongly believe that a little decency and compassion go a long way. It was disheartening to hear staff members making jokes and laughing amongst themselves while patients, including myself, were going through distressing situations. This visit to the hospital was particularly challenging for me as I was dealing with multiple sclerosis symptoms, such as nystagmus, optical neuritis, double vision, and bipolar depression. Unfortunately, my condition worsened during this time, and the lack of understanding and empathy from the staff only added to my distress. To sum it up, my experience at Northshore Hospital was akin to a scene from a scary movie. As someone who has been disabled for more than half my life, I can confidently say that this was the worst hospital experience I have ever had. I have decided that I will never visit an emergency room again, no matter the circumstances. I hope my review serves as a cautionary tale for others, especially those with disabilities. It is crucial to find healthcare facilities that prioritize patient care, empathy, and respect. I urge individuals in similar situations to seek out recommendations and explore other options before considering Northshore Hospital. Remember, you are not alone. I have had only great experiences at Highland Park Hospital. I have been to the ER, was met with a comfortable wheelchair and treated with much respect. I was seen after not much of a wait and treated very well. I have also been there for surgery and was happy with the treatment, the cleanliness of the hospital, and their willingness to help. When I wanted to get up early, they called my surgeon without hesitation. This hospital is way above many that I have been to. In my experiences, I was treated as a human, as an equal and with respect. I couldn't ask for much more than that!
Worst experience ever…. I took my husband to the ER for treatment and it was a terrible experience. He waited in the ER for over 3 hrs to be seen by a doctor. Once he saw the doctor… the doctor tried to give him medication that he was allergic to…. Now if the doctor would have read his chart he would have known that a certain medication is listed as an allergy. The doctor then proceeded to tell my husband “ are you sure you’re allergic… I have never heard of any one being allergic to that medication”. The nurse came into take blood work and but an IV in my husband. The IV kept coming undone…. The nurses solution was to have my husband lay his arm in an uncomfortable position until the IV was done. On top of that every time the IV monitor would go off it took 20-30 min for the nurse to check on it just to stick more tape and tell my husband to keep his arm raised. My husband then asked for a pillow for his head and to keep his arm raised. The nurse told him there was no pillows. Alright no pillows fine at least offer another blanket or a different solution….. nope didn’t happen. I ended up folding my husbands jacket as a temporary pillow. After the 3rd time the IV alarm went off a nurse aid came to check after call light was pushed. The guy reeked of alcohol on his breath badly. My husband at this point wanted out because he was afraid medical errors could be made at this point. It was a terrible experience overall. I would use caution when visiting this ER.
I’m sitting in the waiting room with a 3 year old in need of stitches. My wife and I have been here for 4 hours and I don’t see an end anytime soon. Go literally anywhere else, unless the prospect of sitting in line behind a bunch of cranky boomers for the line ER doctor is appealing.
Very poor emergency room workers. My mom is in the emergency room and the nurse doesn't have time to see her or bell her. She is in A Fib with a heart rate very high. Do not go to this hospital. If my mom's heart was not critical I would check her out and move to a different hospital.
10/2/2023 - 6:45-11:10 PM EMERGENCY waiting for a doctor; pains in chest. I didn't realize how horrible the medical care in our area Deerfield Illinos, North Shore University Health System's Highland Park Hospital Vitals taken at about 8:00 PM, but no sign of a physician. Waiting room full. No rooms available. Obviously it isn't cost effective to provide a larger facility for medical care.
