Love this hidden gem in Truckee!! Views from their deck are awesome, plus shade from trees is amazing. Brunch, dinner all delicious! Love all the historic pictures and history, too. Always love seeing the ski jump in pictures that used to be next to Hilltop Lodge.Food: 5/5
Food and drinks were great, staff is super friendly and they had live music. The ambiance and the views from the restaurant are awesome. I would definitely come back if I lived in the area.Food: 5/5
Had a phenomenal experience at this bar. Our bartender Kyle was truly amazing. And to find, he was at work on his birthday!! What a sport. Couldn’t have asked for a better host. He made his special day special for us. Happy 35th birthday to the best bartender ever. Thanks Kyle!!
The new owners have kept the ambience of the old Hilltop Lodge and have made some upgrades. Menu is more constrained but everything is done well. Prices are median, not cheap but not expensive. Solidly good food and drinks. I wouldn't call it 'fine dining' though. I'd encourage the chef to get a little more bold. When the weather's good I'd recommend getting a table on the deck for a sweet overview of downtown Truckee and sunset over the Sierra summit. Conversely, having beverages and dinner at the bar is also very pleasant.
We had dinner on Saturday. Despite having a reservation it took about 10 minutes to be seated. The bar was not busy so we were able to get drinks. Once seated in the deck, the 5 of us enjoyed our meal. 3 appetizers, 5 entrees, 1 dessert, and several drinks plus tip was just over $550. Food and drink was delicious. Service was good but slow. They seemed understaffed just like everywhere else. Overall I'd recommend this restaurant. The view from the deck was nice and the atmosphere was quiet and secluded above the town.
Was pleasantly surprised the restaurant added a 3% healthcare surcharge. This restaurant charges for everything including bread and butter. The owners are also owners of 2 other restaurants in Truckee and advertise themselves as entrepreneurs. I asked to discuss the surcharge with the owner and was told he was out of town. The manager explained the reason for the surcharge and did not offer to remove the charge. I would think the price of food at this restaurant not cheap would include an adjustment for employee's healthcare.
When my daughter and I want to "go local," this is where we go! Always have the Bacon Bloody Mary! And the food is delicious! Brunch last Sunday was for the 3 of us- Monte Cristo, Eggs Benedict, and a kid's French Toast. All this while we enjoyed one of our favorite views-downtown Truckee. Great place, friendly staff!!Food: 5/5
Had brunch here today!!! Great views and awesome food. Veggie Tacos were heavenly didn't think veggie tacos could be that delicious. The bloody Mary though ! Vegetarian options: More than a few veggie options available for Brunch!
Very much a “fine” place but felt like it could be much more. Pros: Great view. Staff was overall friendly. Some items were great. Parking was easy. Bar is nice if you’re early. Cons: Some items way overpriced or just bland. Staff rotates during your meal so you get 2-3 servers, and have to repeat a lot of info and they forget things we were given the bill twice and no comments or anything about the birthday we were celebrating. Overall don’t regret going but don’t see us returning.
We have been coming to Cottonwood for over 20 years. Our food was mediocre to say the least. Pork chops dry, pasta cold and over garlic. No bread at 6:30 bread was out. Drinks watered down Salmon was good Reservation made a month ago so we didn’t wait for our table outside. Place was packed so they were doing something right I guess. No sure after 20 years we will return, very sad. It has been our go to for a special meal for many many years.
