Our offices and Heritage Museum are located in the Old Burke County Courthouse at 102 East Union Street. We are open Tuesday - Friday, 10AM - 4PM and by appointment. The courtroom is available by appointment for small events and weddings for a nominal deposit and donation. In addition, Historic Burke Foundation own and operates, McDowell House, a house museum and oldest existing brick structure in Burke County, located at 119 St. Mary's Church Road, Morganton, NC. McDowell House is open Sundays, 2-4 from April through October and by appointment. The house is also available for special events and meetings with a deposit and rental fee.
Our purpose is to preserve and restore historic buildings and sites in Burke County and to provide technical assistance to others engaged in preservation. Our goals are to encourage awareness of our heritage and to enhance the character and beauty of our community. Historic Burke Foundation is a non-profit organization chartered in 1982.
