Businesses really need to change with the times and this place definitely missed the progress train. It doesn't even pass as vintage, just run down. The parking was really shady underneath the alley and the security guard sitting near the underground entrance didn't really make me feel secure at all. The bowling was ok, but it could've been better had we not had to spend so much time in the bar line getting a beer. At one point, my partner & I had to trade places in the beer line so he could go bowl his frame and not hold the game up. The things we do for beer... LoL They should definitely invest in lane side service.
One of Portland's best bowling alleys by far. It isn't as nice as Grand Central say, but it's a more traditional bowling alley than that. The lanes are well maintained and the available balls are in decent to good shape. I would choose Hollywood over Interstate Lanes or Grand Central anyday for the value per dollar.
I've been bowling at Hollywood for a few months and have spent a lot of time talking to the Pro Shop owner, Rohn. He is a past PBA tour bowler and is extremely knowledgeable about drilling, modern ball characteristics, working with lane conditions and bowling technique. He teaches bowling and is excellent at that as well. It's definitely worth it taking a lesson from him. I can't say enough good things about this man and his pro shop.
Great Value for our money. Check them out during Rock-It bowl for unlimted bowling from 930-midnight Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I think. 17 something for the two of us to play four or five games and rent shoes. Electronic scoring. Fast pin set up and lanes in great condition.
Lanes are about the only thing good here. If you don't mind kids running around unsupervised and a run down facility, then go ahead and come on in. Maybe its just me, but having your drink knocked over by some kids throwing things down at you while your bowling is definatly not a fun experience, seeing that the staff just watched and turned the other cheek. Won't be back.
This place is a chaotic, unorganized mess! I called one month in advance to schedule a birthday party for my daughter. I asked at that time about lane availability so that we could bowl longer than the one hour a party provides...I was told availability wasn't a problem. When we were checking in I was offered to use their new special .99 cent games for Sundays instead of the party pricing and that worked out a lot cheaper so I was all for it until I was told we would only have an hour because leagues start at 3. I mentioned being told time wasn't an issue upon reservation. After considering moving the party elsewhere so the kids had more time to bowl we decided to ask when we could bowl again after stopping at 3 for the leagues...the staff was able to re arrange some lanes and we had up to 3 hours to one lane. Thanks to Michelle for that. She just may be the only competent employee there. So once everyone was settled in I went to order pizza/snacks. 20 minutes after placing my order the snack bar clerk finds me and lets us know it will be another 20-30 minutes for our pizza seeing as a large order was placed right before mine. Yes, thats a total of an hour for one pizza to be baked. We canceled the pizza and decided the other snacks I ordered would suffice. 15 minutes later I went to check on the order and order some extra chicken seeing as we were missing the pizza and I was told my pizza was ready in 5 minutes. WTF? I advised it was canceled hence the additional chicken order. After deliberation with the employee I asked to cancel the extra chickcen and keep the order as originally placed. 10 minutes later she brings us the chicken. 3 orders of chicken and the other snacks i'd ordered. They never brought the pizza or some drinks i'd ordered. I will never ever return to this bowling ally.
This is an ok "old" bowling alley. But I heard they are not renewing the contracts with the Gay leagues that play there.. Think that is horrible. Don't plan to go back. I would suggest another bowling alley.. There are several others that are much better.
I just started bowling on league there and I like the location and enjoy bowling there very nice people
Get off the wii and come here! Great deals on bowling, food and beer!
Pretty decent place, but a bit hard to get to.
