Homeless Action Center (HAC)

HAC provides free public benefits advocacy to people who are homeless and mentally ill in Alameda County. In addition to helping clients obtain sustainable income and health insurance, HAC also works with community stakeholders to reduce the harms associated with a lack of housing and healthcare. Combining professionalism and compassion, HAC provides barrier-free legal assistance to the hardest to reach populations.

Our staff of 23 attorneys, 6 advocates, and 6 health care professionals work on more than 500 individual cases each year. In 2011, HAC helped 341 clients become eligible for benefits.

They are always welcome and knowlegdeable, busy to reach a simple solution within reason. They can only draw resources based on what action to take, purpose and availabity. Each encounter is different and its team work, plus a waiting process, conclusions of interpetation of the law or regulations.

I struggled in and out of prison for 10 years, SSI denied me left and right, until I walked in the HAC building and 3 years later I went to the hearing, won and was 30 band's richer.

I was homeless once upon a time. It was not fun. When I got back on my feet   I wanted to help people get back too. You need allies to do the work. Allies that actually do something more than pay their own salaries. Homeless Action is that ally. If I have a project. It is my very first stop. Homeless Action can be the key that opens the door and I highly recommend them. Heck, I love that place.

What a wonderful place to get services. Anything from a mailing address, help with your G.A. or food stamps, SSI help. They offer lawyers for free to help navigate you through the bureaucratic B.S. system. They are fantastic.

It's a place that serves the homeless for starters. There is very limited parking spots, inside the building the space is very compact and small. A person is good if they can get there without any other consumers being helped.

Dorian Morello is a GOD send! I have never had someone care so much and be so helpful! She works non stop to make sure I stay up to date with all that's going on with my SSI case, and Thanks to her we won! Thank you Soo much Dorian! You are an Angel!

Highly recommend them  my advocate came to my camp to do paperwork for as I and getting help go to these people on our side

quick & easy support for the homeless community if you need to apply for food stamps or get a tent. can also receive mail here, if needed.
