Waited forever to get my order. It turns out somebody else took it or they forgot. I would give 1 star simply for that reason but the staff immediately prepared my order when they realized of the mishap. The beef hand pie was talky l really buttery and tasty. Great after a 30+ mile bike ride. Tomato basil soup tasted like canned soup. It was okay overall.
Tasty coffee and treats! It's a fun place to hang out, and the bookstore is right in the same building. You can get your coffee and then walk around the shop.
I like to drop in here to grab a cookie or two. The folks working here are always really lovely, and if anything ever goes wrong they're super quick to make it right. Today I bought two cookies, picked them up by the wrong end of the bag and accidentally dropped them, and THEY were getting all apologetic. No no, that was totally my fault! Still, they grabbed me two new cookies, apologizing the whole while. Seriously, they're so kind and good! Love this place.
Someone on Facebook asked about good coffee shops in the Shoreline area where someone could write or study. I added myself to the comments so that I would get notified when people added comments. I got a nice list of places that I am working my way through to find the best place to hang out while writing my novel. See my other reviews for what I have found out so far. Several people suggested Honey Bear Bakery in LFP Local code for Lake Forest Park. I have an unhealthy relationship with pastry, so I put this “Bakery” low on my list. Last week, its turn finally came up. I packed up my computer, put my writer’s playlist on my phone and headed off. When Google Maps told me that my destination was on the right, I was surprised to see that I was outside Third Place Books. Like most writers, I love a good book store, so I was happy to be there. Like most foodies, I know that eateries in bookstores often leave something to be desired. Dang. Honey Bear Bakery is to the left as you come in the door. I must have passed it by many times on the way to browse the shelves or see an author give a talk, but I don’t remember noticing it. There is a big pastry case to the left of the order counter. I moved past it quickly at first, then I slowed down to note that the wares in the case were not all that tempting. I waited for someone to take my order, confident that I would be able to defeat my pastry addiction. It took a while for the girls behind the counter to wrap up their conversation and get my order. 16 oz latte, please. Making the order was easy for me to make and easy for the girl to take. I paid and stepped to the side to wait for my coffee to be made. While I waited, I looked around for tables with outlets. Most of the tables are cool wood slabs, but they are in the middle of the room far away from electricity. I ended up picking out a small table by the window where I would be able to plug in my computer. It didn’t take long for me to search the room and make my selection. It did take a long time for my coffee to be prepared. There was only one other customer in the place at the time, so maybe they were still getting things started up. When my coffee arrived, I took it over to my selected table. It was a mess. There was spilled coffee and pastry crumbs all over it and trash on the window sill and the floor nearby. I looked up to see that the two girls who worked there were standing around chatting to each other. I got some napkins and cleaned up the area. I sat down and turned on my computer. There were several options for Wifi that included “Honey Bear” in the name. I went up to the counter to get the password. The girl pointed to a sign that said I should use the open network provided by the library next door. Weird. Fortunately, the library network was fast. I sipped my coffee. It was not very hot, but the flavor was good. As I worked, more customers showed up. It did not take long for the line to stream past me all the way to the door. People were standing right behind me, so I was glad that I was not writing a steamy romance novel. Many of the people in line were little kids. They rushed up to the pastry case and came back with requests for cookies. I frowned, thinking about how disappointed those poor kids will be when they get the lame cookies. Some of the kids were very little and needed to cry. I like kids, so I don’t blame them, but it does make it hard to concentrate. I packed up early and got on with the rest of my day. I’ll be back to visit the bookstore, but I’ll get my coffee at some other spot.
The food is so good and people are nice but they make my food wrong 4 times out of five and its annoying and inconvenient. The cashier always puts in the order correctly but somehow the person making the food almost always gets it wrong. I've gotten into the habit of opening my food before I even leave the counter which feels so rude but is necessary at this point.
Their baked goods are always oh so tasty. The portions are also generous. Their chocolate chip cookie is my go to, and my daughter frequently gets and raves about the chai latte & quiche. We often grab a snack and poke around Third Place Books.
It's like the staff had better things to do than ring me up and make my beverages. The cashier wasn't really paying attention. I said my order twice and it ended coming up in the wrong sized cup and the wrong milk. I just let it go because that seemed difficult in the first place. I was literally the only customer. Then they straight forgot my iced tea and I just stood there while they helped a customer behind me and then proceeded to chat and do nothing. One of them eventually brought me my iced tea because I think she all of a sudden remembered when she saw me. I would have said something, but I didn't want to interrupt what seemed to be an important conversation. The saddest thing is, I am a barista myself and have been for years. I am very understanding when it comes to customer service and the service industry in general. I personally try to go above and beyond for my customers all the time, but I get when you're just having an off day. It just felt like these two didn't even want to be there.
Yum! Great menu to choose from - anything from breakfast goodies, pastries, lunch items, etc. I ordered a meat pie which totally reminds me of how my grandma makes them - delicious. They do have some tables for you to sit at around the corner which is super convenient. Service was fast and no complaints : very quiet and quaint atmosphere.
I've been here a few times. Most of the time it's fine. On a low carb/ketogenic diet. Asked for eggs and bacon, they didn't have eggs available but offered quiche, I asked if it was flour less or carb free and they said no, I said I can't do carbs. So I get the bacon and it tastes disturbingly sweet. I go up and ask if they put honey or something on it. Turns out these people sold me the bacon they add sugar and spices to without telling their customers, even while the customers are telling them they can't have carbohydrates. Just be aware, literally nothing here is safe if you are on a low carb. What's worse is I went up to ask about the sweet flavoring on the bacon, and told them they should've told me, no offer for a refund nothing. That's extremely disappointing.
Delicious food and coffee but long wait and very busy!!! They have a little area for younger kiddos to play in, which is super nice because you can sit and enjoy your coffee and food while they are entertained!
