Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
My kids have had the opportunity to grow in both leadership skills and character development in a fun and safe environment. I especially respect that their vision is for any child in the Peterborough area to have the chance to experience camp for free. A great place.
Other reviews are missing key points. Positives: Cheap alternative to very expensive camps. Very friendly staff, lots of things to do, great lessons in life, sports, teamwork and religious values. Cheap store for kids to learn value of currency, and how to manage spending. New lessons taught on sunscreen protection. Lost and Found area is also done well enough, and they have an outdoor non-shaded swimming pool with showers and offer cheap swim lessons after hours. Negatives that prevented 5 star: Not remembering to apply lessons for sunscreen, although we parents put it on in morning - we can't be responsible for the kids if we aren't there after lunch, and our kids confirmed no one reminded or helped them put on sunscreen after lunch. Lost items and theft usually from other kids happens too frequent every year: despite us sending a multiple lists this year describing what our kids brought only 1 of 2 brought everything home so far this year. Previous years we've had stolen or lost: towels, hats, sunscreen, lunch-pails, swim suits and even SHOES! One year it was discovered a kid was taking lunch pails and throwing them in the garbage as a prank, again we can't not be responsible for our kids stuff when we not there. Conclusion: we really want to love the place, but every year it's costs us $ on back end, sometimes up to $100 given the list above and it seems they can't figure out a system to maintain order; but more importantly forgetting/ignoring/distracting from putting on afternoon sunscreen and to apply again after swimming, is not acceptable give how much threat the sun is each year, and so if they can't improve on that policy for all kids sake, I'll have to pull my kids out because no amount of fun is worth that risk of getting skin cancer; not even if you are an adult needing care for your kids, to go to work. Let your kids attend at your own risk, but if they can't learn to keep an eye on their own stuff and apply sunscreen on their own, you let them attend at YOUR OWN RISK.
This place is like a second home to me, I've been coming here for almost 11 summers in a row and I have had an amazing time being a camper and later becoming a leader. Amazing place to send your kids as campers or to volunteer as staff.
Friendly and welcoming place, plenty of activities for the kids and the property is quality.
