Cozy and simple. Riverbank tent sites fully shaded; elevated, side by side but spacious full hook up RV sites allow riverbank views without visual obstruction by the tent campers. Open air, private outdoor showers are so refreshing. Friendly folks, close to Walton's Mountain and Museum.
We have been twice! Getting ready to arrive for our 3rd trip & can't wait. Super chill riverside campground, very nice bathrooms, great staff, and bus transportation to float on the river. Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly!
Such a gem of a campground. Small campground with only a few sites. The tent sites were huge, right on the James river. Bathrooms were very clean with the exception of grass clippings all over the floor. That was to be expected with fresh cut grass, then it rained. Even the outdoor showers and porta John's were nice. Employees and hosts super friendly and very helpful. Train passes by across the river in Scottsville so you will hear it and the whistle but I like trains so it was fine with me.
First time there .It was Great. A well manicured landscape thru campsite down to river. East access to river. Kids were playing. Old men and woman sitting in shade with their dogs. A constant Breeze. The smell of food cooking. Everyone had a fire pit going. Marshmallows roasting. Bath and shower facilities were excellent. 5 minutes thru woods to stores and restaurants in the river town. A train or two would go thru during daytime. Fish were biting right from tent sites on river. Campers of all nationality there. Everyone would say Hi. A very relaxing time. A very nice and clean Campground. Kids hitting and catching baseballs. River is shallow enough to walk along edge in places. It was a wonderfull time. Camper and tent sites are seperate..Looking out across river was very relaxing.. Will be back..
This is the perfect hidden gem ! Beautiful, spacious RV sites next to the James River. Plenty of room for both RVs and tents. The distance to Charlottesville was an easy drive and a better choice than the KOA. The owner was friendly and instantly felt like we were visiting family.
Horseshoe Flats is a great campground where you are treated like family . Cheryl runs a wonderful scenic place, extremely clean and an amazing person
We recently camped here for the first time. We were so pleased!! Such a beautiful, quaint campground on the river! Nice bathrooms and showers! The owner was so nice and laid-back. She walked around every day and was always available for questions. She felt like family! The shuttle to tubing/kayaking was an added bonus. Very reasonable and super convenient. We floated 4 miles and came out right at our campsite! We also ate at a Tavern on the James just over the river which was delicious and had the most amazing cupcakes from the bakery in town called Baked on the James. We can't wait to go back!!
Our first time here but won't be the last. The view of the river was amazing and the staff was extremely nice and helpful. I have already recommended the campground to other friends.
This is paradise! The sites are very large and the tent sites are shaded by mature trees. Full Hookups for my rig allowed us all of the creature comforts. The showers we spotless and the grounds were clean and well maintained. The staff was fantastic! Always had smiles and a cheerful "Good Morning!" They went out of their way to ensure every aspect of our stay was perfect. I will return, for sure! Thanks for a great weekend Cheryl and Heather! You guys rock!
Nice little campground with outdoor showers and the river so close. The train tracks are close, and so is the bridge, but it's still a quiet little gem of a campground. Restrooms: Lovely outdoor showers
