I’ve had the honorable pleasure of supporting my sister & her husband, my brother-in-law or BIL through the birth of both her girls. Not having children of my own, these are the only points of reference I have for the labor & delivery process. Back in 2014, my sister delivered her second baby at Scripps Memorial. It was a complete 180 from the birth of her first daughter in LA in 2011. The nurses in the labor & delivery department were incredible! They were so accommodating, going above & beyond to ensure my sister had anything she needed. They even offered me a quiet place to take a quick nap. The room was spacious and had a shower and an area she could rock on her yoga ball. My sister was free to move into whatever position she felt most comfortable - standing, squatting, sitting, laying down, & everything in between. After my niece was born, the tests & measurements were delayed to allow for immediate skin-to-skin time. My sister, BIL, & niece were transferred to another room and continued to receive great care from the nurses and doctors, though not the same quality of care as the L&D nurses. I’ve worked in numerous medical fields and was the caregiver for both my in-laws, one who had cancer & the other Alzheimer’s. I know what good quality healthcare should look like. The L&D nurses at Scripps Memorial were some of the best ever!
Best experience as a first time mom. I was supposed to give birth at a birthing center but unfortunately things went the opposite way when I wasn’t dilating and my water was broken for 48 hours already. We went to Scripps and all the LD nurses and doctors were incredibly nice and went above and beyond being gentle and informative with me and my husband. Although my original birth plan went left and I had to have a c-section, the nurses held my hand, encouraged me, laughed with me and did everything to make me feel comfortable even the 4 days of postpartum. Because of Scripps my birth experience was positive and not traumatic. Statistically, as an African-American woman, our mortality rate is much higher which is why we wanted our birth to be as hands off as possible since I was low-risk but Scripps made my experience incredibly smooth and reassuring. We’re forever grateful. I would give birth here again.
I was recently admitted with a heart attack. From the moment I arrived until the day I was discharged I received nothing but the finest care. Every hospital employee I came in contact with treated me with the utmost care, dignity, respect and compassion. To all of you who worked tirelessly to save my life………”Thank You”.
Truly hit and miss in terms of the care you will receive here. I just left with my husband who saw the most unhelpful, surreally rude physician we have ever encountered. We decided to go to another hospital! That's is how bad he was. Absolutely bizarre. When he went to check the pain in my otherwise healthy husband's rib cage, he 100% applied unnecessary pressure, jabbing him in ways that no normal doctor would do to a patient with debilitating pain for six days!! He said things like, "I can't diagnose you here...I'm just an ER doctor. I treat life-threatening emergencies" I said well maybe he needs to be admitted then to the hospital! At this point my husband is furious and getting dressed. I had to ask the doctor, "How would he get admitted, then??" He said he would have to call an admitting doctor, "but your husband is getting dressed." Dude needs to get out of the profession.
My mom had a heart attack a couple of days ago and had to be rushed to the ER. The treatment was very quick and they were able to get her into a Room and to be seen by a doctor quickly and to ease her anxiety as well. She is now in a Room being treated with medicine and fortunately does not need surgery. The staff has been very nice and accommodating. We wish her a speedy recovery.
My nightmare started at Scripps hospital. Upon entering.. I told nurses I was important to hook up my antibiotics and he hung up the bag but never hooked it up. I fell asleep and found puddles of anabiotic's on the floor later another nurse came in and changed my catheter. The next nurse came in and said what who did that and I said that young man out there And she said he's not supposed to be touching you. He's not authorized to be touching patients. I said, then why did he do it? The doctor never showed up for meetings to tell me what I was going to do. I found out weeks later I had two tubes put inside of me for the kidney stone instead of one that was news . One nurse asst suggested I put on mesh underwear, another nurse, and when it hurt me and shove the catheter up I explain to him that it hurt please get a scissors. He said there are no scissors in this hospital. I said what what are you talking about next nurse said they're everywhere so I don't know why he said that one night I asked for a painkiller or a sleep aid I was told they don't have them in the hospital only Tylenol but next nurse shift said we have morphine tramadol Tylenol. What would you like? I don't know why he said that I escape that hospital with my life the worst conditions possible Horror stories I have 10 more if you want them just call me direct or email me I flew back to Chicago with two catheters and had a kidney stone easily blasted and it passed within a week after the three weeks of hell dealing with Scripts hospital. It was unbelievable you can't make this stuff up , my name is Michael Gaston. I have appeared on the today show hallmark channel. I am design schools around the country. I was never treated so poorly in my life.
there is no communication between nurses. It seems that the waiting time is consumed between each person who asks something and then they forget to return and return at 1hr and 30 minutes.Unhelpfull. they tell me u XR are In the folder and we send to the ready childrens by they never do and don't give me it . So I have to expose my daughter same day to more radiation because the nurse don't do her job.
I have had the worst experiences here from my bed being turned off as a fall risk patient, trying to force me to take a pill during what they thought was a seizure, to using a shopping label as a bandaid after two because one failed spinal taps. Now my severely disabled mother is there and has Sat in the ER for 5 hours waiting for a room. Sharp is the way to go. Wouldn’t recommend this hospital.
My good friend has nothing but good things to say about the treatment she's been receiving there. Clean, professional, calming, and caring.
THANK you so much for taking care of me. Back in 2018 I was helping my mother pack to move to a new place. She wanted me to get boxes for her instead of buying them. So I had to go and scrounge for them at night. After several nights of doing this I went shopping at Walmart. I became exhausted and dizzy finally fell I'll in the store. The ambulance took me to Scripps. There they place me in a room and did several tests. I started feeling better but they kept me there a little longer. Back then people were getting the flu and dying at a great rate. But in my case I had a different type of flu that was not the deadly kind. They took care of me very well. They even had a taxi send me to my car which was still at Walmart after over 5 days. So, thanks for Scripps and Walmart and my taxi driver.
