This hotel has an ultra friendly staff, 3 venues for food, Starbucks, Shula’s, Valet, and it’s clean!!! The staff is absolutely fantastic. Justin from housekeeping is extremely professional and takes pride in his position. Extremely well run. I thought it might be stuffy but it’s absolutely so welcoming. The location and accessibility is great too. It is a relaxing spot in the city. This hotel is historical and not brand new, this adds to the ambience. Thanks for a great stay.
The staff is PHENOMINAL! Everyone I came in contact with was so very pleasant. The rooftop bar has a great view and really nice drinks. Everything about this hotel was nice. The only reason I would not recommend it is because of the shower. The shower pressure is almost non existent and the head is directly in the middle of the shower. There's no way to avoid getting your entire head wet. This will easily add an 1 1/2 to 2 hours to your morning and there is not a single shower cap in sight. Also, because the shower head is directly over you, it's an acrobatic act to get everything clean. Not sure what the designers were thinking, but if you don't want to get your hair wet, you will need to take a towel and hit the essentials. I saw a sign that said renovations were coming, so I hope this is something they are going to address. Nothing else needs to be renovated in my opinion.
Beautiful atmosphere inside and outside on the balcony. We were in the dining room that seats 150 people. Food was delicious, especially the chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and green beans. Another meal option was flank steak with the same sides. Green beans were cooked and seasoned just right. Chicken had a spicy kick and was very tender. Creamy mashed potatoes.
Our bathroom was horrible. There were glass barn doors with a clear view of the toilet from most of the room, even when closed. The shower had a curtain up against the toilet. It was the worst room I've ever had. We arrived late and no other room was available. On the other had, the staff was great. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. Rooftop bar was nice, service was great. Breakfast the next day was great. If it weren't for the horrible room, I'd give it 5 stars.
I love the Hotel Duval! It’s so beautiful. The employees are so kind and go out of their way to greet you and assist. They also have freshly baked cookies everyday. I’d like to recognize by name the valet team. I had a flat tire and Tom, Robert, and Patrick were so helpful offering me water and umbrellas, and alerting me when the technician came to replace my tire. I definitely recommend the Hotel Duval. It’s the nicest hotel in Tallahassee!
Once Tallahassee's only 5-Star now 4 apparently hotel is in the heart of downtown. Great views of the city and FL Capital from the rooftop bar, the Level 8 Lounge. I would have expected a better atmosphere up there...so much potential not realized with that space. It's rather bare, and the design, without vegetation, fire features, and overall lacking any decor, leaves a lot to be desired. Looking forward to the Duval actually doing something inspiring with that amazing space. That said, the drinks were good, and the waitstaff friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. We had a good time.
Historic hotel with a lot of character, inviting ambiance, and solid amenities. Bri coordinated an event at the hotel today and did an outstanding job with logistics, ensuring everything ran smoothly in several rooms across multiple floors. Very impressive! Ryan and Hailey at Level 8 were friendly, engaging, and provided top-notch service. Hotel Duval definitely is at the top of my list of hotels in Tallahassee.
As a Titanium Elite member for Life, I expected more. Sorry but that's true. It's always been my understanding that room upgrades are automatic at this point if a better room is available vs. what I reserved. After learning that the hotel was only 40% full learned this about 5 hours after I checked in, I asked the front desk person, who was same person that checked me in earlier, "Why didn't you offer me an upgrade after acknowledging my loyalty and Bonvoy status?" To which she replied, "You didn't ask for an upgrade sir". My jaw probably would have hit the floor if I was 15 years younger but being in my late 40s, I know better. Clearly this person was not properly trained how to work in the service industry or just does not care. NOTE: Valet team was GREAT! Breakfast crew two ladies were also GREAT. The two teams that were great is why you got 2 starts in this review.
The staff here was amazing. We had nothing but great interactions with everyone from the valet staff to the front desk, the restaurant greeters to the Starbucks baristas. Everyone was really friendly, social and professional. That said, the room itself was just oddly put together. The decor was nice but I could not get over the fact that the restroom doors were two glass doors that could be opened all the way to give a complete view the shower, toilet and sink, but the strangest part was the shower itself. A people flooring and great over head shower head, but the doors were awful. Even when closed, there was no barrier to keep the water from getting out onto the restroom floor so we were forced to lay several towels down to catch the water. Also, when you look at the details you can notice how quickly they flung paint on the walls. No painters tape or anything, just a get’r done kinda job and it shows. This place has a lot of potential but still falls short of being impressive, especially for the price.
This hotel is truly a hidden gem in downtown Tallahassee! My husband and I have stayed there multiple times and enjoy the rooftop bar and Shula’s restaurant on the lobby level of the hotel fabulous food!. Having stayed in some amazing hotels around the world, the rooms and suites at the Hotel Duval rival the best. Suites and rooms are all unique….most important though are the professional and very responsive staff especially Shannon Johnson, General Manager, Nicole, Rose and Ja couldn’t be more accommodating. Even the valet staff were top notch! We will be staying here again!
