The Houston Maritime Museum is the official maritime museum for the city of Houston encompassing international and local maritime history.
Mission: To capture and preserve the wonder and influence of maritime history and the marine industry with focus on the development of Houston, the Texas Gulf Coast and the State of Texas.
The Houston Maritime Museum exhibits over 150 ship models, ranging from ancient vessels to the present day, including an impressive collection of WWII models. Also on display is the Luykx Navigation Collection, a variety of authentic artifacts, ships in bottles (and lightbulbs!), and maritime art. Our newest additions are exhibits on the Texas Navy and the Port of Houston.
The museum docents are knowledgeable veterans of the maritime industry and are able to tailor tours for everyone including history buffs, naval veterans, and those with no knowledge of maritime activity. We happily accommodate school groups as well.
Additionally, our professional model builder offers a program for Boy Scouts to earn their Model Makers Badge. Call or email for more information.
