So I went there about two months ago to adopt a cat after losing my dog. The volunteers were so nice and showed my a few different cats that would suit my lifestyle. I also got the meet the cats a couple times before I picked out the one eyed cat named Thomas. I renamed him pirate. They were also kind enough to waive my adoption fee since I was a veteran. He has quickly become my cuddle bug and he’s super playful. If I’m home he has to be cuddled up next to me.
I have been here twice. Once to do a shelter pull and transport for NBRAN, and recently to drop off donations. The shelter staff is very nice. The animals are well-cared for and the kennels are very clean.
All the other staff were pretty nice and cool, but there was one in specific, a overweight lady called "Jessica" a full karen that was mean to everyone. DONT GIVE HER YOUR PERSONAL INFO. Dont even talk to her. Talk to the other lady she is sweet and nice.
This is one of the best care facilities in our area. They're personel are very well trained and care for all of the animals in their care. You can drop off an animal for any reason and they will do their best to find them a new home. I have included a photo of their hours below for your review. It's also best to call them before you arrive to allow them to prepare for the animal being brought in.
Today was the hardest day for my family in a long time. We had to take our dog Dallas to the Howard county humanitarian welfare to be euthanized because he had a stroke and was not doing well. The people were very understanding and compassionate and made it easy for us to know that we did the right thing by him. May Dallas rest in peace. We love you.
Wonderful place! We adopted one of our pups from there. Such nice and caring people.
They seem to really care about the pets in their care. The staff was friendly and courteous.
I wish I could say they were helpful in finding us a new pet but they were not. I witnessed them return dogs to people without getting chipped or neutered/spayed but when I had one visit to save a pup they denied us bc my current pet yapped at the adoptee. She being in a foreign environment with animals barking, it was very difficult for her to relax. Then one of the girls talks about being in the same position for 20 years and she knows it won't work out. Well, I've been a pet owner for well over 20 years and I know animals can and will work things out on their own. My brother has been working at a vet for nearly 30 years, and would give any assistance if need be. We ended up buying the breed we wanted because doing so was much easier, less invasive and far more private without asking for all the personal questions and without being judged by unqualified people. My original visit had gone so well with the potential adoptee even the employee that brought me the pup and the lady that sits in the back of the office could see the great match up. That's so often the problem with places like this and other adoption agencies. Rather than helping the best they can, they feel they can choose the adoptee for you.
Animals seem to be well taken care of. It is a hit or miss when it comes to who is helping you at the front. The disappointing thing is when they are talking around you, about you. For example, telling their coworker - that dog can't go to a townhome, so it's a no, but you're right in front of them, and they can speak to you directly. Instead that person then looks to you and says, so this dog can't go to a townhome or condo, etc. They are sitting at 2 desks in the open, 10 feet away from me, it's that disregard that makes you feel like adopting elsewhere. They are a small enough team where I may be blacklisted from getting a puppy now, because that's the other thing, I informed them.of the puppy I wanted to see. They said come on in, and when I got there, they let me see her, play with her and then before you know it when I was outside waiting to talk to a caretaker, they talked to each other in front of me, about me, and said... can't go to a home with kids or condos or townhomes. All of which apply. Then one person turned to me and repeated the statement again.
It's a kill shelter, I wouldn't recommend it at all. I had a cat sent there that I had rescued because I had cats of my own I couldn't keep her. They euthanized her within a month because of her behavior, animals need time and patience that's something they obviously don't understand.
