The HCPF works with the Howard County Police Department and the community to help develop and support programs to benefit local police and improve safety.
Established in 1994, the Howard County Police Foundation is a nonprofit organization supported by local businesses that aids the police department in funding and promoting programs to improve public safety and quality of life in the community. By teaming business leaders with law enforcement, the foundation better addresses common concerns, establishes goals and ensures Howard County remains a great place to live, work and play.
The Foundation of our community.
The Foundation of our vision.
The Howard County Police Foundation
Making Howard County even better!
Created in 1994, the Foundation is a non-profit collaboration that links the strengths and talents of Howard County’s private sector with the needs of the Howard County Police Department. By teaming business leaders with law enforcement, we better address common concerns, establish goals and ensure that Howard County remains a great place to live, work and play.
The Foundation helps the Department with business issues and provides seed money for worthy public safety projects presented by the Department and the community. We provide funds for BearTrax, a year round mentoring program designed to foster a strong relationship between the police and at-riskyouth in the community. We also recognize the outstanding police officers and outstanding department civilian employee performance at the Department’s annual awards ceremony.
The Howard County Police Foundation works with the Howard County PoliceDepartment and the community to develop innovative programs and publicize and fund projects not possible under the county budget. It is our vision to improve the county’s qualityof life by helping the Department provide excellent community service and public safety.
Support families of fallen officers & more
The Foundation is committed to taking care of the families of the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect Howard County. We provide support for the families of Howard County Police Department employees and volunteers who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
Scholarships for deserving students
We believe in nurturing our community’s most important resource—the people who call Howard County home—by sponsoring three scholarship funds. We aid police officers with continuing education through the Chief Livesay Scholarship Fund and award college scholarships to county high school students as well as the children of Department employees.
Funds for critical causes
The Foundation holds a number of fundraising events throughout the year to support a wide variety of programs that enhance the community in which we do business. In addition to attracting much-needed funds, these events raise awareness of the importance of the Department to the security of Howard County.
The annual Police Pace is a highlight on the Foundation’s calendar. This 5K race and 1-mile fun walk & run takes place in Columbia’s Centennial Park. Proceeds from the Police Pace have benefited a number of charitable initiatives supported by the Foundation that go beyond the county’s budget. These initiatives have included scholarship funds, creation, renovations and maintenance to the Department’s Fallen Officers Memorial Garden, after-school programs for at-risk youth, and bicycles for police bike officers.
