The high level of filth, rust and wear on predominantly older machines is inexcusable considering the $650 annual fee and the facility hospital affiliation. While Howard Long does have extensive offerings, membership is not worth it until there are improvements to the decrepit equipment 1990s?! and extremely dirty machines. The facility apparely does not hire separate janitors and staff do not clean adequately.
I walked into Howard Long Wellness center yesterday and paid for a day pass with no questions asked. I attended an aqua fitness class and used the track. Today, I returned to join AND attend another class. I filled out the necessary paperwork. Then, I was told I would need a drs release to exercise because I’m over 50. Ok, I say, “well I want to do the class today.” The employee replies, “you can’t” I was told that it was ok yesterday because I just had a day pass. Today, since I want to become a member, I need a drs release because I’m over 50. This makes no sense to me! But I had to leave without my workout. Needless to say but I will not be joining your gym!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE
Indoor walking track, full size pool, lots of exercise machines. Everything is kept in good condition and clean. Freindly staff to assist your workout plan. No other place like it .
It's a really nice gym wow everything you could want
It’s clean, but not as clean and taken care of when first opened. For all the money they charge, they never add or upgrade equipment. Poorly equipped in some areas. 1/2 the staff is friendly, 2/3 of the remaining 1/2 neutral. The last 1/3 of the remaining 1/2 is not friendly at all. And they don’t keep their hand sanitizers full. Planet fitness or the Y are other options. Y has special rates for low income.
Clean and spacious facility. The equipment is slightly dated but everything still works as intended. There’s a full basketball court that has a nice vintage feel to it.
This place is a serious joke. It is easily the most expensive gym in the area. It is not open 24/7 making it so crowded and annoying. It needs cleaned in the worst way. When you walk on the treadmills you can see the filth down in the cracks. The equipment is so outdated and old. You just want to wash your hands non stop because the weights are so old and rusty. Much newer nicer things out there that this place lacks. The locker room is absolutely disgusting. You can take a shower at 5:30 a.m. when they finally open and there will be wads of hair, lint etc. in the corners. There is mold all over the fixtures and walls. The lockers are dated and dirty. The sinks in the bathroom are rust covered. It is not worth the price at all. You could go to a gym with a much less expensive membership and be provided with all new, updated, working equipment and much nicer and cleaner locker room at a 24/7 convenience.
I was a member for years and returned to use the gym as a guest. I live in another state and was told that I couldn't use the gym as a guest anymore unless I proved my out of state residency. By this time over 1.5 weeks I had purchased enough guest passes to account for a 2 month membership due. It's always the same staff member who causes problems and I've even watched him chastise members for placing weights on the floor because it was "too loud." The equipment is old and really isn't adequate if you're interested in a challenging lifting or resistance workout and some of it is so starkly different from modern equipment that you may injure yourself there as I have. I also generally have to clean the rust from my hands after using the free weights because the weights, bars and smith machines are so old. Every once in a while I come back to use the gym as a guest and they spend money on new trees, new lobby decorations, etc. The equipment never changes and I understand they're charging nearly $50 per month per person. I pay less for Golds Gym in Los Angeles with unlimited pool, dry and wet sauna, yoga and trainer access. Several staff members are always nice and accommodating but a handful are in the wrong business - they shouldn't be required to interact with other humans. I should also mention that when becoming a member I had to obtain a note from my doctor in order to workout because I occasionally took anti anxiety medication during that time period. I'm not aware of any other gym that does this or even asks for confidential medical information. Most of the people I worked out with there years ago have moved on to other gyms. I'd advise you to look elsewhere.
What a great facility. This center has almost all the amenities you could ask for, along with a helpful staff. I can only name two issues with the facility, that is the fact that they refuse the be open 24-hours, though the demand is there and that they simply overcharge for membership. At over $55/mo, I had to walk away. I miss the facility and besides those two points keeping the facility over of the 4/5-star rating, I would recommend the establishment -- even if only for a $10 day pass for visitors to the area.
I went to this Gym since my gym was closed on this certain day. I love the running track and all the cable machines. Maybe they should invest more on some free weights, the sauna was amazing very clean. Only thing that bothers me is the membership fees its a lil too pricey.
