Fantastic water rock park just off the interstate. Clean and pretty when we visited on a very hot day. Clean bathroom and nice park across the covered bridge. Loved it.
Never even knew it existed. If it wasn't for Geocaching, I would have driven on by it. Historic section very interesting and water area top notch.
The water is muddy & ice cold. However, the boys had a good time. It's $5 per car. Cash only.
Last weekend, July 30, 2023, was the first time we had been to Hurricane Shoals Park. There is a $5 fee to enter. My son and I loved it! Whether you are tubing or just chilling in the river, it's great for all ages. It is "swim at your own risk," so keep a close eye on the little ones. The drive from Athens was nice as well. If you are looking for something fun but affordable during the HOT summer days, then look no further! Playground: We didn't play on the playground. The water was too much fun, but it looks really nice. Picnic area: People had pop-up canopies over picnic tables and were grilling out.
We love this county park! Beautiful setting along the river, plenty of picnic and cookout space with a few pavilions available to rent. Tubing is a popular activity here, of course at your own risk and maybe when the flow isn't cranked up and running muddy from a bunch of rain like our visit this time. Bridge over the river allows from some great pictures above the shoals.
It was cool but I had a member of a family went but their in a different spot and I was with my family and this lady got in trouble because she got a beer and not it not allowed but the ppl that watch the place they told me I could come for 2 year and that not fear it was the first time I went with my family. And I left bc I was driving 4ahours and that not fear. They where my family but I didn't came with them and I didn't know they had beer but it's ok I will never come back ever again.
This is a wonderful park on the North Oconee river. There is a small 1800's village recreated on one end of the park. It's fascinating to walk through the buildings and see what life was like at that time. You cross the river by way of a covered bridge to access picnic shelters and playgrounds. There are public restrooms available. The shoals area of the river is great for playing in the water to cool off or discovering all types of aquatic life forms tadpoles were in abundance today.
If you are thinking about going go it's really beautiful.
Super unique County Park! Cascading water was adventurous enough for my 10 year old but with spots where my 2 year old could also have fun. Area was well maintained with little trash. Bathrooms were locked during the week June 2022 which was not the case when we visited a few years ago. Floating down is best enjoyed with an inner tube or raft, but being on a long road trip we had forgotten ours.
We had such an amazing time here! I surprised the boys in my life on father's day 2017 with a very long car ride to end up here. It was such a treat. We'd never been and we definitely were not disappointed! The grounds are beautifully managed. If you're a nature and a history person this is a place for you! We were unaware of how the water would be, so take that into account when visiting. It was cold and the current was really really fast. The rocks are crazy slippery and you can get hurt being super honest here.. you are probably going to leave with a scrape or two. But it's all in fun and absolutely worth it! We took food and stayed all day long. We're planning another trip this father's day!
