Best to stop here during the day, but if you really need to use a bathroom, they do have a couple of port-a-potties available between the two sections of the parking lot. Be sure to give plenty of space for the tractor-trailer trucks on the left side. Parking for regular vehicles is on the right. Happy stopping!
I have stopped here multiple times. Men's bathroom has always been in decent condition. Building is small and is in good shape. Information kiosk, fireplace and friendly, knowledgeable staff. There are vending machines, where everything is expensive, phone booth, dog walk area and plenty of parking. I visited with my friend and she really liked this rest stop! We liked the bird feeder that attracted different species of birds and a few overweight squirrels to the window .
This rest stop is never open when we pass by every weekend on our way up to NF Lake. There are 2 outdoor potty's only. One single is so nasty it is shameful and the handicap one is worse than beyond nasty. Why is this real area closed. These outdoor potty's need to be serviced a lot more often than they are. Someone is going to get sick. I would not let animals use them they are so bad.
Its great but they close down at 5 pm they used to be open later but since covid their hours have changed
Clean, quiet rest area. Portapotties are available when not open, but they are typically pretty gross.
Great service provided by the state. The restrooms are well maintained and the grounds are well managed. They do have a dog walking area and vending. A few picnic tables. The staff has some great information about local features that are often overlooked. Bob is a great guy to chat with. Stop in and get a copy of the state highway map and the smaller visitors map. Watch the hummingbirds that visit the feeder.
Clean bathrooms, plenty of parking for big RV trailers.
Good selection of snacks hot coffee/cappuccino machine only for a dollar
The cat the Canterbury rest area is very well maintained and very clean. The vending machine area was also well kept. They have a little area off the side where you can walk your dog in the grass. It's definitely nice to see that people pick up after their animals amd keep the area clean. Inside the rest area besides the very clean and well stocked restrooms they have a variety of brochures, flyers and booklets to choose from. Such as places to go or if you need somewhere to stay, to things you can do or go see in New Hampshire as well as places to eat. So to say the least I'm almost 100% positive you'll definitely be able to find something that interests you and/or satisfies your needs. Unfortunately the only negative I have come across at this rest area is that it's not open 7 days a week nor is it open for 24 hours a day. So on the days and time that they are not open they have 2 porta potties available for use. Now that it is winter they are freezing cold. If you've ever stayed at a rest area, the amount of people you see going in and out of porta potties at rest areas is honestly... amazing, crazy, jaw dropping and kind of gross all at the same time. You'll see some of the not so cleanliness people. But at most rest areas that use/used them you will see thousands upon thousands of people going in and out of the porta potties all day and all night . On top of that they're only cleaned every 2 days sometimes only once a week by the companies that distribute them. Ugh gross! Otherwise rest areas are normally good. But beware and be careful of Highly used/busy porta potties at rest areas.
always clean staff was polite. every time I come here I'm never disappointed. They did have a sign up saying that they were hiring. I any one is looking for work or a job this might be a good gig.
