The Parks Exhibition Center is a focal point of the Idyllwild Arts campus. It is open throughout the year and serves to enrich the Academy and Summer Program by featuring the work of students, faculty and visiting artists. The 1400 square foot space was dedicated in 2002 and is a gift of Elizabeth B. Parks.
In the summer season, June to August, the Center features Native American art and work by visiting artist/faculty. Artists’ receptions, lectures and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the summer.
The Parks Exhibition Center Mission is multifold. First, the Center works to support the educational programs of the Academy and Summer Programs. Second, to provide a spacious gallery environment where students from Idyllwild Arts Academy can show their work and create a forum for critical dialogue about art making. Third, to bring in respected professionals for Visiting Artists shows, lectures and workshops, exposing the students and community to a dialogue with established artists.
During the academic school year, Parks Exhibition Center presents 10 shows including 3-4 shows of work by graduating Visual Arts Department seniors, a juried student theme show, a junior show, 2-3 visiting artist invitationals and the visual arts faculty exhibition. During the summer program, Parks displays the work of faculty artists and staff over the course of 7 openings. The center also features Native American art, reflecting the activities of the school’s Native American arts and cultures program.
