Immaculata High School

Description

Immaculata High School is a Roman Catholic high school in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, operated by the Ottawa Catholic School Board. It is currently located along the Rideau Canal in Old Ottawa East neighbourhood of Ottawa. Like other Catholic schools, it is publicly funded under the Ontario school system.HistoryImmaculata High School was founded as an all-girls school in 1928 by Reverend J.J. O’Gorman, acting under the advice of higher ecclesiastical authority. He named the school “Immaculata”, with an initial enrollment of 85 run by a staff of 3 Grey Sisters as an alternative to public school education for girls of moderate income, and located at 211 Bronson Avenue. The first three members of the teaching staff were Sister Loyola, Sister Agnes of the Sacred Heart and Sister St. Geraldine. The girls, paid a monthly fee of one dollar if their families could afford it. The site for the new school was the former Christie mansion property on Bronson Avenue at the corner of Lisgar Street, which was purchased for $25,000. Werner Knoffke, a well-known Ottawa architect, designed the school with eight classrooms, a science lab, a home economics classroom, a gymnasium and a stage area, and office space. A passageway linked the school to the former Christie mansion, which became the first convent home for the Grey Sisters who taught at the school. During the construction of the school building, the students of the newly formed Immaculata High School attended classes at St. Patrick’s Home, at the corner of Laurier Avenue and Kent Street. Sister Loyola was the first principal and the teachers were Sister Agnes of the Sacred Heart and Sister St. Geraldine.

I went here through grade 7-12, will never regret it.. the best school & I honestly miss it. Great teachers & programs, they want their students to succeed. Thank you MAC
Horrible school they definitely only favour upper class white students who come from money the principals are usually always racist and target minority students I recommend you don’t send your children here worst high school I’ve ever been too and they’re so called “catholic” this school has many many demonic energies all around especially the vps very unprofessional bullies
This school I can say with confidence is one that educates, I am also impressed by how all teachers teach their subjects, very efficient. I do not regret coming here, not because I wanted to but because my parents told me to. I am looking forward to spend another painstaking 4 years here. Also I can't think of this enough: there are toilets that work properly! Truly a school!
Horrible School teachers are rude and terrible except for mr. Cleary Mister kidd and a few others Miss Plummer is not fit to be a vice principal and Miss Heather is not fit to be an Ea along with that toilets are never flushed the students here are awful and the teachers here don't do anything about bullying do not recommend sending your children here
best school i have ever been everything is clean and well kept. go to band for drums every Tuesday and Thursday, everything is good but 1 thing, one drummer guy is on his phone iPhone 13 while playing music, guy is definitely going to be a addict on his phone being a troll, get off your phone guy and play with us guy. i reccomend it very much Ms. Howe is the best help on my entire high school experience And the teachers, and the vice principals and the principal is Fantastic After Graduating from this amazing high school after grade 12, i will go to algonquin college.
I went to this school my entire high school career and i can say that this is by far the worst Catholic school in the board. Some teachers are amazing however the principals, most teachers and even some admin staff couldn't have a clue what respect is. I graduated a whole year ahead of my class, all university courses with absolutely no recognition at graduation. If you are not from a family of money please be prepared to be shunned and neglected by the faculty. This school's actions would be deemed disgraceful by the catholic church and the "values" they are apparently trying to teach us.
Very respectful environment. Teachers are the best i've seen anywhere. Lots of very strong students at MAC that get the opportunity to reach ahead in computer studies. Band is terrific. Great location near canal and clean, beautiful building. Best grade 7/8 chess players !
I went here for all 4 years of high school. The teachers are amazing, the building is very cool and the school has a long standing reputation as community leaders and charitable contributors. Students will often complain about the uniform but there's nothing wrong with it. Wear it with pride and remember it could be worse: you could be a student at Lester B. Pearson insteadFor the record, I state this not out of some sort of school rivalry, as LBP does not compare. I say this as LBP has a terrible reputation and a number of their students are involved in petty crime and violence.
When I think of Mac, diversity of students and concern for students are my first thoughts. My daughter is better for attending Mac. She attended the so called "Better" schools in the area and their answer to bullying was "girls will be girls". Mac would not tolerate bullying and addressed it head on. After that day she never encountered another case. The kids she met were from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and they enriched her life and made her better for knowing them.
When all is said and done this place was a good time. I can think of worse and more poorly maintained schools then this one. Most the teachers there were cool and I liked a few I did not like.
