WHAT IS REIKI:
Reiki is a Japanese hands on energy healing technique dating back to the early 1920s. Reiki is NOT massage therapy. The word Reiki means “guided life force energy”. When one’s “life force energy” is low, we feel stressed, and are more likely to get sick, or heal slower from an injury/surgery. When our energy is high, we have the capacity to feel relaxed, happy, and be healthy. Reiki works on all levels- physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual and will therefore heal on all levels. Reiki shifts and aligns one's energy back into balance and creates many beneficial effects to include relaxation, feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. The practitioner uses a healing touch technique by placing his/her hands over (or directly on top of) your body through standard hand positions.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A SESSION:
During a Reiki session, the individual remains fully clothed while relaxing comfortably on a massage table or sitting up in a supported chair. The practitioner gently places his or her hands in different positions on or above the body. Through these hand positions, Reiki energy flows through the practitioner, out of his/her hands onto you. Each hand position is held for approximately 2-5 minutes, depending on how much Reiki is being absorbed in each position.
The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. Most report feeling deeply relaxed and peaceful during and after a session. Others may experience warmth, coolness, or tingling sensations during the session where hands are positioned. You may even fall asleep. The experience is different for each person. Reiki and Healing Touch ‘meet you’ where you are. Many energy based therapies, such as Reiki, can affect you for 2 or 3 days following your session, therefore it is recommended to drink plenty of water during the days following the treatment to flush out any toxins. Your system is adjusting and this is part of your body’s natural healing process.
