Since the first international student enrolled at Iowa State University (ISU) in 1878, the university has worked to provide programs and services to help international students and scholars succeed in Ames and America. As of fall 2017, there are over 4,500 international students and scholars at ISU.
The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) works to better the lives of international students and scholars at ISU by providing many resources and programs that focus on adjusting to life at ISU and in America. ISSO employs International Student Ambassadors who have many years of experience in the United States and abroad to provide courteous and timely service to all international students, visiting scholars and their families.
ISU’s international reputation has attracted people from all over the world to study or work with ISU’s eight colleges: Agriculture and Life Sciences, Business, Design, Graduate, Engineering, Human Sciences (formerly Education and Family and Consumer Sciences), Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine.
