Description

Jackson Park Town Site Addition Brick Row is a group of three historic houses and two frame garages located on the west side of the 300 block of South Third Street in Lander, Wyoming. Two of the homes were built in 1917, and the third in 1919. The properties were added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 27, 2003.615 South Third StreetThe 1 1/2 story brick house at 615 South Third Street was built for Alexander Johnston, a successful sheep rancher, in 1917. The structure is situated on three lots lined with large cottonwood trees. Red brick covers the building on all sides, with a partial foundation visible at the bottom of the exterior walls and a water table of brown brick runs around the entire structure about two feet above grade. The roof is gable-fronted, with two projecting side dormers. A full-length porch built on the front of the building features a hipped roof supported by boxed columns. The porch railings and all the home's windowsills are sandstone. A second porch on the back of the house was originally screened in but was winterized with the addition of two casement windows in 1999. A detached garage is set slightly behind the structure. The front porch, accessible via concrete steps, leads to the paneled oak front door with beveled glass. The screen door, of white aluminum, was installed in 2001. To the right of the front door is a bay window with decorative brickwork. A similar bay window with a hipped roof is located on the right side of the home, next to a tall brick chimney. Towards the rear of the building, also on the right side, is a single-hung window. On the rear of the house, wooden steps lead onto the enclosed back porch through a wooden screen door and a wooden paneled door. A single double-hung window is the only one on the first-floor rear of the house. On the left side of the structure is a pair of double-hung windows next to a door leading to the basement.
