We were here visiting a patient a few times, and had pretty good experiences. The hospital itself is very clean which is good!, and updated. The parking lot is pretty big, but depending on the time of day, could be a bit challenging to find a spot. The front desk for us was hit or miss. At some times, it was easy to check in and be able to go see our loved one; however, at other times, they were adamant that only two visitors could be on site. It depended on who was running the front desk. The physicians, nurses, technicians, and food service staff we encountered were amazing. Everyone was warm and personable, and you could tell that patient care was their utmost concern. The waiting areas were nice and roomy, and had outlets if you need to charge your phone. Overall, this is a pretty good hospital for inpatients. I hope I don't have to visit again, but if needed, I would!
My family and I had some challenging times while visiting Jackson Critical Care Dept. Our mother was hospitalized in July 9, and spent about 2 weeks in Critical Care. The security staff would change protocol every week! We did our best to communicate with the charge nurse on shift, explaining that our family was huge and that each day 2 -4 family members will visit our elderly mother. I personally put a restriction code in place to ensure that visitors would be family only. Once we arrived , there was one young man that purposely gave our family a hard time saying that only 1 visitor was allowed at a time, we couldn’t wait in the waiting area upstairs etc. Physician administered MULTIPLE opioids at a time without explaining its purpose. I encourage everyone to be sure to visit / stay close to your love ones who are in critical care. Always ASK questions because the staff aren’t fourth coming about anything! My 87 yr old mother was basically used as a Ginny Pig!! My siblings and I definitely had to keep our eyes open. There were certain procedures we avoided because of her age and the risks, if any was never explained. I felt more could have been done, more test to help her condition. Unfortunately we lost her after deciding to put her in comfort care. She grew tired of the treatment and didn’t feel comfortable at all! Some staff were very helpful and some weren’t, especially those who were being discrete about the type’s of medicine that were being administered!
Having my first child at Jackson South Maternity Ward was the best decision I ever made. They are so welcoming and caring, extremely knowledgeable and ready to answer all of your questions. They made it easy for my family and I to welcome our child. I have to thank my doctor Dr. Stephanie Delgado, supportive and kind, always checking in on you. Ms. Lisa my nurse, the best nurse, so supportive felt like family and the one I recommend asking for, Ms. Nadine in the nursing room who was on top of my child care and very encouraging and lastly, Ms.Celina the lactation consult, amazing. Her teaching and knowledge makes you feel like you know what you are doing as a first time mom. Thank you Jackson South Maternity Ward.
Had surgery on July, I have to say that every single staff member there is very polite, attentive and you can tell they all want to make sure you have the best and adequate care, including the medical receptionist. The professionalism of the nurses and the genuine care for the patients well-being shines from beginning to end. The surgical team receives you with positive tones and smiles that you can see even behind the masks. It makes all the difference to the nervous patients. The hospital is clean, organized and spacious. Dr. Delgado is truly amazing, not only at her profession, but also her bedside manner is impecable. Because of her, I can finally live a pain free life. Please remember to be kind and compassionate to the staff. I can assure you their intentions are to make sure that you are back to health in the safest way. Thank you Jackson South and University of Miami medical team.
Avoid this emergency room. They are very unprofessional and the nurse does not want to work here and is overwhelmed. They made me stay in pain for more then 5 hr. It a shame how the medical staff work in this hospital. I will never recommend this hospital.
This hospital needs professional and compassionate nurses who actually care for the well-being of their patients. As well as physicians who take their time explaining and informing the family members. I felt I had to be on top of the hospital calling to get information about my father’s condition. Let’s remember these are sick people who’s families are trusting and believing they’re receiving the best care.
Our experience was like visiting a prison. A rude security guard is there to greet you. I went with my two daughters to visit my oldest daughter who had just given birth to our first grandchild. Now I know and respect the security guidelines in hospitals having worked in one for so many years myself. However, there is no need for such draconian restrictions on visitations. We were told only one of us can go up at a time while the father is in the room so my daughter asked, can my father sit down here while we are visiting my sister because he’s disabled, she said no. I had to go wait outside the building. Mind you the only chairs out there are occupied by people smoking under the awning. So my choice was go stand in the rain or inhale smoke. I have respiratory complications and problems walking. They have all these comfortable couches in the downstairs lobby, but no one’s allowed to sit on them apparently. When we did the expectant mother tour I was there and asked, where can the spill over family sit while they waited taking turns visiting the baby and mother? The tour guide told me there’s a waiting area by the elevator. The security guards downstairs were not interested in this explanation I know some hospital liaison is going to respond with usual line about how they serve the community the best they can and in the most respectful way. This statement was designed weeks or months ago in some committee meeting. We had choices as to which hospital to choose for the birth of our grandchild. We chose Jackson South because it was close to home. In retrospect we should’ve chose Baptist. They are more accommodating since they are a private hospital. That security guard should look for employment at the DMV, she’ll fit right in.
I was having a procedure done today. It's bad enough 70% of the patients don't make it out alive. After changing into the gown I asked the nurse do you have the contact number on file for my mom? And applied and said. Yes! I asked what is it she replied and said is your mom name Shawn and I replied no. Come to find out they had someone else paperwork in my folder so I said everything stops at this point. Also the nurse said the assistant told her that I had Tylenol this morning I responded and said that's not true and then she said my mistake I was speaking about another patient and I explained to her and her colleagues that I don't believe none of you. That were the two red flags .But to God be the glory for using and blessing Stephanie Delgado hands , experience and knowledge I made it out successfully
Emergency was good, the nurses, the pct, even the doctor when we saw was were all great. Once we got the room and saw the doctor everything was running smoothly. Unfortunately, it's terribly under staffed. I waited over an hour for water to which I just decided to give up my own water. The nurse saw me once and that's it. Everyone is busy and moving and has been very helpful if it wasn't for them there would be 1 star. More people need to be added to the staff to provide patients with the attention necessary. As I'm writing this, I have not seen anyone stop our room since I ran the patient bell 20 mins ago. We've been here since 7:15ish pm and it's currently 11:30 pm and in this room for 2 hours. When will we get discharged? No idea.
I'm really sad to write this. This is completely from my experience, and my opinion. I held Jackson in great esteem, even after they sent my mom out in a body bag after a procedure. The background on that is that My mom died during what was described by the doctor as a minor procedure when the doctor slipped and cut her pulmonary artery. Really. This fellow's license was revoked in other states, yet was allowed to kill my mom in Florida. The doctors that I have experienced at Jackson have discounted suggestions by "the care team" because like one said to the team "I AM THE DOCTOR!" Really? People think like this? Especially when someone's life is being treated? In my opinion, that is a horrible attitude. I don't have much good to say about Jackson any longer.... Except for the non registered staff. Like housekeeping? Rock stars. Food services? Rock stars. Most of the CNA and that level of care? Most of them rock stars. Doctors and nurses? Most of them Zero stars. Some are great, but completely in my opinion there are way too many bad apples to justify going there in the near future. I will do whatever I can to avoid Jackson until I hear positive results that things have changed.
