A native Californian, Jamaica has been studying ballet and modern dance since the age of six. She received her early training with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Marin Ballet. She later broadened her spectrum of dance training at SUNY Purchase, studying Limon, Cunningham, and Graham styles of modern dance as well as the Alexander and Cline techniques.
Throughout her post-collegiate dancing career, Jamaica has had the opportunity to perform with myriad dance companies, ensemble groups, dancers and choreographers. Jamaica eventually became an astute student of Pilates after being “saved” by the method, rehabilitating from a spinal injury from a car accident. Over time, she realized that dance was not her only calling. In 2005 Jamaica completed her Pilates certification under the tutelage of Carol Appel at Body Kinetics in Mill Valley/San Francisco, one of the best known and highly regarded Pilates programs in the nation. There she successfully demonstrated her ability to teach Pilates with a high standard and full comprehension of the method as a whole, focusing on the original principals of Joseph H. Pilates.
Since 2001 she has been teaching ballet and modern dance to both children and adults, and choreographing musical theater productions like Annie, West Side Story, and Narnia for Marin County schools.
On her own time Jamaica loves going to Power Yoga at Red Dragon Yoga, swimming with the North Bay Aquatics masters swim team, and ballroom and latin dancing at Dance Arts Studios. She lives in Fairfax with her loving husband and two kitties :)
