This place is a hidden gem to those that aren't local. It's so much more than a convenience store. It's breakfast, lunch and dinner made to order. The Jay Burgers are popular, but his Indian Food is by far the best you'll find in the area. Jay is always making things happen for the community. He helps run the community gardens, the Westchester Center and so much more. It's not just the corner store, it's the cornerstone of the community.
We happened upon the store while in town looking for breakfast and got a wonderful history of EC, excellent bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, advice for plans for the day which we took!, a ton of kindness, and some homemade hot sauces! You’ve got to stop by. Jay is fantastic.
This is a place from the past that survived through the globalization area that we are living now. I love visiting this grocery store to remember those beautiful days where life used to be more simple and easy. Jay, the owner is such an amazing guy, he always smiles and bring happiness to everyone who knows him. I love the sandwich he makes and I would love to visit him again to watch a football game when the season starts. If you live around this place, please make sure to stop and get your groceries from it, even if Jay doesn't have it you can ask him and he will make sure to get it for you in your next visit.
This is one of my favorite local places. It is quaint and like a step back in time. No need to goto NC for a visit to Mayberry when you have it right here. The proprietor, Jay Patel, always has a smile on his face and a story to tell. Sit and relax a spell with a cup of coffee and one of Jay's specialties from the grill. He will regale you with stories from his colorful past both in Oella and abroad from his birth country of India. Get a unique taste of local color right here! Don't forget to buy a calendar!
Mr. Patel made a nice day turn into a magically wondrous day for me and my granddaughter after we got a bit lost walking trails at Benjamin Banner park. A sweet offer of a free lollipop, sandwiches with basil and tomatoes he went into his garden to pick and cut into 4 triangles each, letting my granddaughter watch cartoons on TV, sending us home with basil cuttings, providing directions back to our car, and showing us his garden and the cherry tomato plant miraculously growing huge out of the concrete. A friend who came into the store topped off our stay by paying for an ice cream bar for my granddaughter, who is now ready to move to Oella and go to the country store every day. What an uplifting experience! It helped heal my soul and provided my granddaughter with an example of how life can be when generosity and caring are at the heart of our interactions with others.
My Dad took me here when i was 6 years old. I loved it! The owner was amazing! And so polite! Wonderful hospitality! And i just came to visit again today! Now I’m 28 years old. Same owner! And still as nice as ever! Great food! Everything is fresh. I’m so glad i visited again!
