Health and fitness has been a passion of mine for many years. It all started when I was a child and would attend cardiac rehab with my Nana post her open heart operation. Her therapist always allowed me to follow along and even taught me the basics on how to take a blood pressure reading. I knew at that young age I wanted to help others when I grew up. Fast forward to college, I thought long and hard what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to help in the cardiac field since it had effected the lives around me, but after thinking, I did not what to help someone get better after surgery, I wanted to prevent that someone for being in the position to ever need a cardiac surgery. I followed my heart and now hold a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology (Exercise Science). Throughout college and post I have held certifications in aerobics and personal training. Teaching a broad range of fitness levels, shapes and sizes from cycling to Pilates and strength training to resistance training I have a extensive range of fitness methods that keep me creative.
After having children, my passion for fitness was still in my heart, but as a mother I always put the needs of my children first. My journey lead me to being a stay at home mother of my beautiful babies. I have continued with my desire by using exercise as my “moments of clarity” in the hustle and bustle, of the busy lifestyle we live. After loosing my father to cancer I needed an outlet of therapy and I found myself relying on running to relive my mental stress. Then I noticed that I really started to enjoy this running thing and started setting goals for myself. I accomplished my first set of goals and competed in the Disney Princess Half Marathon and Rock and Roll Chicago Half Marathon. I needed more though, I needed to up my challenge, so I set out for a new goal. In October of 2011, I completed The Chicago Marathon and supported the American Cancer Society all 26.2 miles!
Since the marathon, my family of four has grown to be a family of six (plus two dogs ☺). Finding time for myself is difficult and my body was in the worst shape it has ever been in my life. My mood changed and self confidence diminished. I would look into the mirror and be grateful for my children and the body that created them, but still felt I couldn’t recognize myself. “Who are you?” I would think to myself, “Where did Jen go?”. I knew I needed to change. My energy levels were low and always being tired was not how I wanted to go forth in my days. I was eating “conveniently” and not healthy. I was setting poor examples for my children. So, one day, I said “ENOUGH! GET YOUR BUTT UP, EAT HEALTHY, AND FIND YOURSELF!” My new journey as a fitness enthusiast began. In one year I went from 165 lbs. to now 125 lbs. Now, this journey has not been easy. It is hard! I have good days and bad days, but my WHY has not changed. I want to be a positive remodel for my children and be alive and healthy enough to see my children’s children and most importantly be comfortable in my own skin.
I am still continuing on my journey, which I will never allow to end, by always promoting a better/healthier me and family. My passion to help others still runs deep in my veins. If I could motivate, inspire, and help change just one person’s health journey for the better I will have accomplished my mission. My mission to make the world a healthier place, one person at a time.
