1 in4 Children are hungry I want to make sure No Child, Senior or Family in Need goes Hungry in East Texas! No One Should go Hungry in our Community!!!
During my 17th Annual Ton of Toys Toy Drive, an interest was expressed for my assistance to the East Texas Food Bank. It came to my astonished attention that 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults, mostly seniors, are "food insecure" and numbers 252,900 in 26 counties. To this request, it was absolutely impossible to say no.
This year will be a first in a partnership between JJO Radio and The East Texas Food Bank for 2016 and years to come. The JJO Tons of Food-Food Drive will be held in the Brookshire's parking lot 100 Rice RD at South Broadway in Tyler, in the Spring and Fall always starting on a Friday at 10A when I will again be living in an uninsulated box (POD), unshaven and unbathed, until at least 10,000 pounds (5 Tons) of non-perishable food items are raised for needy hungry East Texans.
Since 1988, the East Texas Food Bank, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has provided food to over 200 partner agencies, in an effort to feed children, the working poor and seniors throughout 26 counties in East Texas.
In FY2015, 18.2 million meals were distributed to hungry East Texans. 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults in East Texas are food insecure..
