John's Drive-In

About

John's Drive-In aka John's Rootbeer has been around since 1937, still the original building. We are open year round.

Description

In 1937 the building originated as an A&W. It has had 4 different locations. In 1972 is when A&W pulled the franchise and became John's. We still continue the tradition of making our own beer in the basement with the same recipe since 1937. John Meehean has had the business now since 1991. We see about 60,000 visitors a year, most being regulars, and it's best when it's 85 and sunny. From the months of Sept-April we serve our homemade chili and fish frys everyday. You can also enjoy your rootbeer in a chilled mug year round.

Recommendation is a chili dog, although I've been keen on the fish sandwich as of late. Root beer is awesome. Service is always excellent. Good old fashioned drive in experience. Haven't had a bad experience yet. Highly recommend!
A Waukesha STAPLE - you must visit. The staff works really hard and puts out a great product. I recommend a frosty! Fun things to occupy the kids in the back, lots of picnic tables to enjoy your food/drinks at. Don't forget about this place in winter--open year round!Food: 5/5
The people who work here are always so sweet. The food was amazing, as always! I love the chicken parm sandwich!! They make the best rootbeer you can buy and it's always a treat to make it out here for us since we live further away.Food: 5/5
Cute little hotdog place. All outdoor seating. Chicken tenders were delicious. Popcorn was good. Flies were annoying but it was outdoors only.Food: 4/5
Rootbeer is amazing. Onions rings also amazing. Cheese curds very greasy would not repeat Atmosphere is uncovered picnic tables. At least umbrellas would be nice. Look forward to trying fish fry. However. Overall
Atmosphere was good. Service was fine. Root Beer was good. Food was meh. Went because we like Root Beer & my dad's name is John. Kinda surprised they kept the same branding scheme as A&W, but that's neither here nor there. Was hoping to love the food more. We can say we tried it.Food: 3/5
My fiancé and I have been coming here for years. We just went back again today, and the prices went up substantially and the quality has gone down… my cheese curds were my favorite, and now they almost doubled in price and you get about half.:.. and now they are served like someone sat on them:.. we unfortunately will NOT be returning anymore. The root beer use to be AMAZING and worth the money… now the price has gone up again almost $10 a gallon, and the flavor is basically gone… so sad to see one of our favorite places going down hill!
Came here for the first time with my daughter today while we were in the area looking for somewhere to eat. We ordered a hot dog, Italian sausage, fries and a rootbeer. The hot dog and the Italian sausage was terribly bland and tasted like they both were left in boiling water all day. The sausage was super soft, almost falling apart and had a single piece of green pepper, also incredibly soft with no flavor like it had also sat in a water bath all day. Not to mention the marinara on it had ZERO flavor. The hot dog was a weird color like yellowish/light brown - never seen a hot dog that color before! My daughter took one bite and was like "Nope!" Their "famous" rootbeer was not cold and was almost flat. The only positives were that the fries were crispy and the girl that took our order was nice. We wanted to get ice cream after our meal but after our experience, we ended up going to Oscars down the street.
Love this cute little place! Went there with my girlfriends. Awesome girls day! The diet root beer is so good and the food was even more amazing. I would eat there everyday if I could. Love it!
Old fashioned root beer stand. Brings back many memories. Chili dog was great. Play area for kids and picnic tables.Food: 5/5
