The staff are absolutely doing their best. They're polite and try to see everyone in a timely manner but I suspect like most of Johns Hopkins', they are overworked and are understaffed either purposefully or due to being overworked they lose talent. I've found certain times of the day are better than others; for example, first thing in the morning is not a good idea unless you want to wait an hour +. I arrived at 730a and was 6th in line when they opened and was walking out the door after my blood draw at 735a. They didn't start doing blood draws until about 8a. When you're being asked to fast and not take medicines, you must go in the morning and being hangry doesn't help. At other times, I was literally the only person there and was seen immediately.
7/5/2022 very poor customer service. I know staffing is difficult, and people are stressed. I waited 1 hour and 10 minutes just due to the rudeness of one receptionist… I just needed a copy of lab results from one month ago, the report wasn’t in My Chart and I needed the report for a July 6th appointment. Apparently both receptionist have little or no respect for people over 70 and think we are deaf and can’t hear their comments. If John’s Hopkins is at all interested in the name of the employee, just give me a call. We are all stressed, but we can at least be polite. I personally will make a formal complaint thru John’s Hopkins.
The phlebotomist was wonderful. The lady at the front desk, however, was beyond rude to me. I parked on the side of the building facing rt. 175 because that is where I parked to get my mammogram. I was not aware of the other entrance. I went in the building and went to the 2nd floor. I was sitting on the bench outside of the lab waiting for it to open. She came into the lobby and told me that I was not allowed to be in the building until 8 and that there were other people in the parking lot who were there before me. She proceeded to take two people first who were in line behind me. If I'm being honest, I felt very discriminated against. Her agitation with me was totally unprovoked. I said nothing because I was fearful given her agitated tone. That was the first and probably the last time I will go to that lab.
They have chairs right next to each other, for reasons that could only be described as “utterly insane.” I don’t want a potentially plagued person sitting right next to me. The carpet is FILTHY. The signs saying, “The whole world is short staffed, so be patient,” are in particularly poor taste when you know that they won’t even speak to applicants without six months of experience. You could be fully staffed by now if you would just hire people and train them.
When I walked in there were a whole bunch of people in front of me and I thought I’d be in for a long wait. It was only about 30 minutes which was way less time than what I thought it would be for the number of people in the waiting area. The receptionist was friendly and got me set up right away. The nurse that took my blood work was also super nice, and I was in and out without barely feeling the poke.
The lab itself is good. Staff seems to be busy, but everyone is friendly. Waiting is terrible unless you are lucky to get a chair. When the waiting room is full, you have to wait outside the waiting room where there are no benches or chairs to sit. This is not the fault of the lab, it's the fault of the building manager. Being handicapped, this is an ordeal. The facility is NOT handicapped friendly. The building management should be reported to OSHA.
The phlebotomists here are the absolute best - incredibly skilled. The receptionist desk leaves you wanting a little though. If you're coming here for super quick bloodwork - they're often VERY busy. If you're coming here for exceptional customer service, I'd recommend you go elsewhere. But if you're just looking for people who will do their job and want phlebotomists that are impeccably skilled - this is the place! I'd be nervous going anywhere else.
The last time I was in this office for lab work I heard the office staff behaving cruelly and unprofessionally about an elderly patient. The elderly woman they were discussing needed assistance walking and had difficulty giving a sample apparently and as she was leaving the staff at the office were loudly making fun of her and making rude statements about her visit for all in the lobby to hear. This is an embarrassment of a medical office and every member of their staff deserves to be set down for this behavior.
My son is very hard to stick, we have gone to pediatric phlebotomists plenty of times and it usually takes them ~4 tries before they get him. We started coming here and they are FABULOUS!! They get him first try almost every single time. They’re always very pleasant with us and treat us well, even though they’re usually busy and, it seems, overworked, which would cause most people to be a in bad mood. Absolutely love this place.
The employees were so kind and helpful! I loved chatting with one of the nurses while my blood was drawn. Such a positive experience!
