So overpriced. Some friends in town have been telling me about donations that they made, and then realizing the store is selling the stuff for almost the original price and after being used, obviously. You are very lucky to be in a small and nice community with not many store options, but you are truly taking advantage of it. The ¿manager? is very rude and aggressive. I was told, "Are you going to argue or take the store credit?" when I went to return an old camera that I bought 48 hours before. The item worked, but very poorly. She told me that the store credit was only an option if the item doesn't work at all this wasn't informed to me when I was paying, so it makes me wonder: why are they even selling items that *might or might not work*? Items say "tested" on them, so they are supposed to be in decent working condition, right? Or is it too crazy to think that? Be honest about it. You are a Christian community, after all. At least be consistent about your values, and be nice with locals.
Was at the shop today and last month. Both times the staff were giving me judgemental glaring looks when my two little girls were whiny. They are kids, I tried to calm them down. There was no compassion, only judgement. Also the prices are super high on items with holes, stains and huge wear, just for having a brand name on it. Not going back
I want so badly to support these guys but the dishonesty here has gone too far for me sadly. I did a price check on some items and was informed of the price, and once I confirmed I wanted to purchase, the price for both items suddenly increased on a whim once it was clear I wanted to buy. It’s just disappointing and the gauging could not be more apparent. Please do better.
Greedy management overpricing goods! It was an awesome store, but the current management has driven it downhill. I asked an employee why their prices were so high and they told me "because customers resell our items online" …what? I recommend avoiding Crossway and donating elsewhere if you can. They’re the only thrift shop in a town with a high cost of living, they must do better.
Church community thrift store with hellish prices. Never seen a thrift store priced so high. Originally thrift/Charity shops were for low income people who needed good quality items at a cheap price point. This place has morphed into a retail priced store except that the items are used and they charge as if they are new. Hate to say it but Walmart, Winners, and even Louis Vuitton stores offer better value.
Used to be one of my favourite places to wander around and find random treasures, especially with young kids who like to spend their allowance on a new toy. It is so overpriced it is cheaper to shop at Walmart and winners. I noticed a price jump a couple years ago and it has gotten so bad. I will be donating my items to a thrift store that doesn’t price gauge their customers moving forward.
This place used to be an excellent thrift store, but now somehow considers itself to be a boutique! Prices are absolutely ridiculous, with stickers on everything showing what it 'resales for online'. The bottom line here is that these items are DONATED... this thrift store stocks its shelves with items that are free, and somehow feels quite justified in turning items around for ebay prices? Literally everything in the store is priced this way - from basic casserole dishes, to picture frames, forks, electronics, toys, etc. I'm disturbed at how greedy this thrift store is, in a world where the price of basic living is skyrocketing.
This used to be a go-to place. I would often find reasons to go to Canmore or delay plans to ensure it was a day they were open. Large stock, excellent prices... it was a fun hour of shopping. I can't tell you how much money I have spent in that place! Then the prices started to creep up, and then they took off. Management forgot their point. To help the community. That's what the church is for, right? Not profits? Now they price everything based on eBay, but what they don't realize is ebay has 150 million active users I looked this up, and Canmore has a population of 14,000 people. Secondly, they get everything for free! They don't pay for their inventory. They don't pay taxes. They then gouge people who are hoping to get a deal from a church thrift store. This place has jumped the shark, and it's really sad. I will not be shopping there anymore.
I visited this store on March 16, 2023. It was clean, very well organized and stocked with a huge variety of nice secondhand items to peruse. Staff seemed friendly enough during my time there. PRICING though…seemed OUT TO LUNCH on DONATED mostly USED wares hence the loss of 3 stars. Researching prices on EBay, ETSY, etc. seems reasonable enough, but then turning around and charging ~50% of that price is ridiculous especially if the most important part of the research isn’t done to see whether or not those items actually SOLD on those sites and sold for those prices. Many items were tagged ‘EBay’ price & ‘you pay’ price. Kind of appears like a justification for overcharging on generously gifted merchandise… After the miscalculation of thinking I was going into an actual thrift store, I begrudgingly found and bought a couple of cute, overpriced decor pieces that I didn’t need but couldn’t seem to talk myself out of. And leaving there mostly bummed out, I knew that that would be the last time I would be going there for a while. Takeaway…Crossway Community Thrift sells donated secondhand stuff at non-thrift prices. It’s nudging up against Winners & HomeSense retail for sure. Perhaps a business name change is in order? At least then shoppers will have a better idea of what they’re getting themselves into.
I visited the store yesterday. I’m surprised how much they charge for donated clothing. They are charging consignment prices for clothes that aren’t in consignment condition. Most of the shoes were well worn and overpriced. The same for the clothing. Disappointing thrift shop.
