After the birth of her second child, Kenni began taking group fitness classes at the Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax, Virginia, and as fate would have it; she earned a position as an instructor teaching hip-hop cardio as a part of the fitness center’s program for Fairfax County employees in 2008. As her classes grew in popularity, Kenni explored other forms of dance to enhance her class routines. Kenni would eventually find the Latin dance inspired Zumba® Fitness platform. She became a certified Zumba® instructor in 2010.
Since then, Kenni has earned a Group Exercise Certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America® (the AFAA) as well as additional certifications in Zumba® Toning and Turbo Kick®. Kenni has quickly become one of the most sought after group fitness instructors in Northern Virginia and has taught at various fitness clubs and dance studios in the area. She regularly receives requests to hold special class sessions for private events such as family reunions, church functions, corporate workshops and retreats, and birthday parties throughout the National Capital Region.
2012 marked some exciting turns in Kenni’s group fitness career. In October 2012, she became the host of a new segment on MHz Network’s popular show, Women’s Worldview, entitled “Fit Fifteen with Kenni Powell”. Women’s Worldview airs every Saturday morning on Comcast, Cox, DIRECTV, and RCN in select markets across the United States and internationally. “Fit Fifteen with Kenni Powell” is featured once each month. In November 2012, Kenni experienced a dream come true when she became the new chief instructor and owner of Brickhouse Cardio Club Manassas!
