My 81-year-old Mother had fractured her hip in early July and was not able to undergo surgery. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks, then onto a pulmonary rehab for an unrelated issue for two more weeks. She then was released and was admitted to Kessler Chester Campus to start her rehab for her hip. Another rehabilitation place was recommended by the case worker at the lung rehab because they said my mother couldn't "tolerate" Kessler and they wouldn’t accept her. I wasn’t about to take no for an answer. It was divine intervention when I walked into my mother's room to find a Kessler Liaison had been in to visit another patient and left her card with my Mom. I immediately called her and discussed Mom's situation and needs and the rest was handled by her. My mother arrived at the Kessler Chester Campus and the team was ready and waiting for her. They had a schedule drawn up for PT, OT, and both my Mom and the team at Kessler hit the ground running. Well, not really running, but my mother was up and walking in less than a week. She had a minimum of 3 hours a day of PT, OT, and Speech Therapy broken up into smaller intervals so she could rest in between. The nursing staff was wonderful. My mother was always met by a smiling face and the staff was always happy to help her. When I arrived I was always met by the same smiling faces and they were always happy to give me updates on her progress. The nurse assistants were just as lovely and caring to my Mom. Again every job was done with an upbeat attitude and always a smiling face. The PT and OT Therapists went above and beyond and made it fun for all the patients. I was able to sit in one day and the engagement between the patients and therapists was a wonderful sight to see. Again, posiitive, bright-eyed, upbeat smiling faces. They push their patients, but know their limits and make it fun so it doesn't feel like work. I would highly recommend Kessler Chester Campus as they worked wonders with my Mom in just 2 short weeks. Mom has been home 2 weeks and she is already back to her routine; cooking, cleaning and washing clothes, etc. Not sure we would have had the same results at the other places that were recommended by the lung rehab. The bottom line, listen to your gut and fight for what you want. Kessler is the best of the best. The staff at Kessler are wonderful. They are very professional, highly skilled and always positive and I would highly recommend them!
I suffered a minor stroke and blood clots to the brain last December. I spoke eight weeks of therapy and the staff was helpful, accommodating, with a positive. My three guardian angels were Ashlei, Alyssa, and Rachel. The ladies were above and beyond and better place because of him.
Truly I feel very lucky to have been able to get into Kessler of Chester after my accident. When I left the hospital I really was unsure how long the recovery would take, but the team at Kessler had me hit the ground running on day 1. They were able to have me walking stairs when a few days before I could barely walk. The PT & OT Therapist truly take the time to get to know you and work on your goals. They helped me realize I could do so much more. The nursing staff is constantly checking in to ensure you are ok as a person beyond you as a patient. The aids where also there when you reached out for assistance. The supporting staff truly was great, the care manager was in constant communication with me & my wife. Last, the food prepared was excellent and truly helped fuel my recovery. Overall, this was a great experience considering the circumstances.
Someone I knew had a stroke and went here and it’s the best you can visit them so they aren’t alone and great care.
My husband suffered a stroke in January. I wanted him to go to Kessler because all I heard was how great the rehabilitation was. In the beginning I thought he was making progress because that's what I was told. He was there for 5 weeks. I brought him home and started home physical therapy. The therapist was very unhappy with where my husband is now. He said he should have been fitted for a brace because he has no movement on the right side. He also isn't walking which he should have been using a hemi walker. So not very impressed to say the least!!!
The therapists were excellent at this facility and dealt with my dad in a caring and professional way, also updating us about his progress. Our issue was that my dad had had a stroke during surgery and struggled with attention and memory for much of his time here, and we got him a new i phone that was “lost” the day after he got it and never found. Considering he did not leave the facility and no one could come visit him, we think someone took it. We were never reimbursed and someone even said it was his fault. If you are a facility managing patients with severe cardiac and neurological issues, there should be a way to help patients keep belongings safe. There also was not a way for us to communicate with him, as he needed help using the room phone after his phone was lost, and we would have to call many times and sometimes not even the same day to try and get someone to help him communicate with us. No one called us when he was transferred from the icu until days later. I feel the communication plan to help patients communicate with families during COVID could be much improved. The therapy staff was fantastic.
Atrocious experience overall. While there are some amazing and kind and competent therapists and aides, many are callous and incompetent. Multiple times my father has called for help with bathroom needs and had to wait more than 30 minutes for any response. Of course this results in accidents. He is unable to move due to severe injury and is 100% dependent on them for help. They have also not been giving pain medication on schedule so he is in unnecessary pain, on top of the already debilitating pain of his condition.
Kessler was an amazing experience for me... truly life changing. I had brain surgery for Glioblastoma at Overlook hospital. Just four days later I was transferred to Kessler to learn everything again. The staff was so loving from the doctors to the aids. I slept there for 12 nights. Each day I got stronger thanks to the dedicated therapists. I would never be where I am physically or mentally had it not been for my stay at Kessler! Thank you to all who cared for me..I’m forever grateful.
Very pleasant,kind & caring staff
The physical therapists and occupational therapists were all beyond amazing. They went above and beyond for my grandmother every step of the way. Everyone was also very, very nice. However, they went from a five star facility to way less when it came to the discharge process. The doctor told my family to show up at 1p. The discharge did not occur until 4p, after we had to ask numerous times when it was going to happen. We were waiting for blood work to be discharged, and the nurse basically in so many words told us that the doctor should never have told us that because 1p was very off. We were already off to a bad start. At 3p the blood work results started to trickle in and it wasn't until 345p when we asked AGAIN if we could go that they were looking for the doctor. When we were finally given the all clear to go, I asked the nurse at least two times if everything for home care was set up. And she assured me that physical therapy and phlebotomy were all set up. We thought we were good to go. Fast forward to Monday, the first weekend since discharge and the home care facility calls and tells us they never got a script for blood work and that no one could come today. Mind you, bloodwork IS VITAL TO HER CARE. When we called Kessler, we were told the nurse was supposed to give us a script and never did. AFTER I ASKED numerous times if everything was set up. After a whole day of phone calls, my grandmother had to be driven to a facility to draw blood in the middle of the day, during a heat wave, to get her blood drawn. Almost everything we were told about discharge from Kessler was a lie! Phlebotomy is not even included in homecare, even after I asked if it was and I was told yes! Thanks a lot for making the first week home way harder than it had to be! Kessler is a great facility, until discharge. We were beyond thrilled with all the care and are so upset that this is what has come of all our happiness
