About

Austin Chronicle Winner! -> Coolest Venue You Thought Was Only a Coffee Shop!

Description

From "Best of Austin" write-up in the Austin American Statesman: "Plenty of surface parking on site. Some of the music is live. Decaf, teas, chai. [Lunch!] Some quiet spots in this big space. We’ve always liked owner Thomas Gohring and his ambitions to create a singular community around coffee, booze, entertainment and, yes, martial arts. Gohring brings to the game a flair for showmanship, an element almost absent from any other coffee shop in town. He has expanded the size of his original location on Airport Boulevard while retracting his attempts to go global. A small stage, backed by his signature graphics, takes pride of place, but the long coffee bar attests to the original impulse to serve rigorously prepared espresso drinks along with food, beer and wine. As the ACC Highland project, as well as the Linc and other area redevelopments fire up, expect Kick Butt to thrive and retain its inimitable character. *The place opens and closes at odd times; we rounded up or down."

Stopped in for a cup of coffee and to start my work day. The atmosphere was my favorite part. I enjoyed the delicious breakfast sandwich and pecan cold brew. Zero complains. Keep up the good work. I'll see you soon.Food: 5/5
Had the dankest everything breakfast bagel sandwich + cream cheese + avocado. Chef chatted with me to check if it was good and that he added some extra spice to it can’t remember what tho Absolutely perfect. Latte was pretty sweet but it’s bc they have the pour tops not the pump tops like other places just fyi This place is my go to comfort breakfast place. They’re consistent, absolutely sweeties, and I love the vibe. Check out their night events too!
So, taken with a bell curve rating this is 4 stars for Texas, but since I’m used to the plethora of Really good coffee and food in California where I reside, its a 3 star in my mouth and belly. Average cappuccino, milk was steamed way too hot for proper. average food. Romaine and a oil and vinegar that was oil mostly. Not bad! Just basic is all. That being said, I’d do it again in a pinch. I respect what the owner has done with the multi-purpose venue. Feels like you walked in to a car crash of a bar, coffee shop and open mic and it somehow works for the locals. Busy place. If you’re ocd about clean, don’t look at the floors or the guys hat or hair making the coffee. Not a real fan of the music playing on my visit. But thats like wine or coffee. Everyone has a different taste.
We asked for the secret menu and they said they had cinnamon chai latte so we decided to try that. It was so good! She was helpful and friendly. The place is really nice looking. I got a breakfast taco and it was pretty good also. We will come back to check out the open mic night. Overall great experience.Food: 5/5
Great coffee shop! Plus one of the workers came out and noticed me alone I was waiting on a friend and offered me to come inside and wait. I appreciate that she was looking out for me. If I could give it 10 stars I would
Super fun spot for coffee and food during the day. Bathroom is hilarious. Good place for punk shows at night.Recommended dishes
I LOOOVE Kick Butt Coffee! The food & coffee drinks are fantastic, the owner & staff are happy & friendly Thomas Gohring is a fellow cat person! & the ambience is old, weird Austin, something I find comforting, since I pine for the way things were when I arrived here in the 70's. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.Food: 5/5
This place is the essence of what Austin represents, chill, laid back, cozy, and quirky. They have a good selection of basic cafe food items as well as some awesome breakfast tacos including sausage from Meyers in Elgin. They have an amazing variety of different mocha drinks. They have live music and local artists that play here. they had a lovely couple playing Christmas tunes when I went. I love the atmosphere and the quirkiness of the decorations and the menu items. The only drawback I had was my breakfast taco wasn’t that fresh when I ate it. But other than that it was fine. Overall I love this place and will be back soon.
First time stopping into Kickbutt Coffee - ordered a hot Carmel mocha with almond milk which was delicious. Was hoping to get some work done however could not connect to the wifi even with the password they shared. Decent food options.
It's a nice coffee place that would appeal to a lot of people with certain tastes. It is setup more like a bar with live music and the lighting and decor inside is quite special and hippy. I liked the taste of coffee there, it was amazing. The menu items and the timings were unclear though so we ended up getting coffee and cookies during lunch time on a Saturday. Nice location and the vice is cool, I'm not so sure I would go back but I'll suggest you visit once for sure. You would know if it suits your taste and if you want to come back to visit again.
