I have so much to say about this facility, but first I want to start by saying as a patient or family of a patient it is so important to be present and advocate for yourself or your loved one. Secondly, I want to say this facility has a hand full of exceptional nurses, administrators and respiratory therapists. Unfortunately, they’re overshadowed by the mass of non-compassionate, inadequate nurses, administrators and doctors. My husband was involved in a motorcycle accident and in a vegetative state when he was placed at this facility for almost 2 months. During his stay I was told by doctors and nurses that I overreact to things going on with my husband and his care. My husband was left in his on feces for hours, when I came to visit him, the feces were dried on his skin and the leg brace he was wearing at the time. I was told to take the brace across the street to the laundry and clean it since they couldn’t replace it or clean it at the facility. My husband had a DVT in his arm and there were signs letting the nursing staff know not to use that extremity but I had to tell them on so many occasions please don’t use that arm to take blood pressure it was like they weren’t reading the charts at all. Their lack of turning my husband caused a stage 4/5 bed wound to his coccyx he was wet from urine for so long it made the wound worse, also due to lack of proper cleaning and following proper safety protocols my husband now has a fungus called Candida aruis C.auris which could become deadly. My husband developed post traumatic hydrocephalus, which I had to diagnosis myself after bringing it to Dr. Chahine’s attention. He thought I was overreacting. Thank God for Dr. G Govil for hearing me and getting a scan which determined he had hydrocephalus, when my husband left this facility, he went to the hospital to have surgery I was told it took the team over an hour to clean him enough to enter surgery. Once my husband was out of surgery it took the nursing staff an additional 45 minutes to clean my husband for me to come in and see him. I fought daily for my husband to be cleaned properly and he wasn’t. I have so many stories of neglect it would take multiple pages to share them all. I’m not writing this review to bash Kindred; I’m writing this to bring light and attention to change in this facility. I believe Kindred is capable of being an amazing facility and would be capable of keeping the promise they give to the family when they first arrive. They need to do a lot of restricting starting with the nursing director and many of if not most of their nursing staff. The nursing staff along with the director are a stain on the glass of the Kindred facility. I understand that running this hospital is a business but… you are in the business of taking care of people and you would do well to remember that very important aspect of your job and yes, I am speaking with the CEO when I say this. There was a time I became afraid for my husband’s safety due to possible retaliation due to me and our family advocating for him and or because a nurse didn’t properly read his chart before dealing with him. This is a horrible way to feel when you can’t be with your loved one at night.
Extremely unprofessional. Worst place ever! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!!!! During my father's recovery from surgery, he was able to talk and walk. After transferring KHSV here, they gave him sleeping pills for more than a month, the nurse said he needed to rest…. Who need to sleep more than a month? My dad never woke up again till he passed. Worst place ever!!
The staff is friendly and professional and have become friends. The food is good. Ricky night nurse, ruby night cna, divia nursing, aj lab, Samantha infection control, Nancy phlebotomy. Overall nursing staff gets 5 stars. Desiree patient advocate was very nice. Marie case manager worked so hard to help with transfer to next facility. The rna Ramona and so many other nurses were wonderful. Doctors come by a lot to check in. Doctors govil, chahine, discepolo, Dr. See all great. If you're reading this I hope your experience at kindred San Gabriel Valley in west Covina was as positive as mine was.
In behalf of my sister Elvira Gonzaga, I would like to extend my appreciation to all the staff of Kindred Hospital San Gabriel Valley for their dedication, support and help, you are all amazing thank you very much, and most especially to Desiree for going far and beyond in helping to find my sister's need. Once again THANK YOU ALL AND MAY THE GOOD LORD BLESS YOU.
Not all but some nurses their are completely rude. Please don’t send your loved one here. The patients were telling me how the nurses were treating my grandmother when she was there. They would yell at her and treat her sooo bad. This place needs more caring and compassionate people to work here. You took the job make sure you treat these people like your family members if they were there. Extremely unprofessional
Extremely rude and unprofessional staff. Nursing staff is not helpful and get upset if you ask questions. Hot as heck in the rooms really gross, very old rooms. Take your loved ones elsewhere!
Our grandson Raymond Pomeroy was sent to this hospital with a broken neck, paralysis in all four limbs, and severe pneumonia. Kindred is an ageing long term acute care facility. The people who work there are amazing, they will do everything they can to make your loved one comfortable, advocate for your loved ones recovery, and provide the care needed. You do need to stay on top of your loved ones care because the staff are stretched thin and not well paid by the insurance companies. Know what is needed and ask for it. If you treat the people who work there kindly and respectfully they will do everything in their power to help. Dont expect to just drop your loved one off in a critically ill situation and come back three weeks later and find them fully recovered. You need to take an active role, visit them daily if possible for a few hours and ask questions about their care. If you do that you can be confident that if you treat the hospital staff with respect and kindness they will provide the best care possible for your loved ones.
No communication, very poor quality of care. Staff gives inconsistent information and goes to great lengths to not actually answer your questions. This is extremely concerning for a “ medical “ facility
The care that they gave to my son was excellent. The respiratory therapist did well and I want to thank all the nurses and doctors who did a good job. Everyone there is very kind and professional.
The moment my uncle was transferred here he began getting worse. He went from having immediate, empathetic, compassionate care to the complete opposite. He actually called us to get us to speak to the clinical staff on his behalf bc he was so weak. Hours prior, he requested his bandages changed and wound cleaned, nobody came. Being a paraplegic, he asked for assistance to shift sides on the bed, nobody came. His pillows and blankets fell on the ground and instead of being empathetic towards him, his nurse Maria L. YELLED AT HIM and belittled him for not picking them up off the ground as if he were able to. Again. He’s a paraplegic with a severe medical condition, in other words, bound to his bed. When approached by family, the nurse and management got defensive instead of acknowledging they’re not treating the patient and giving him the care he needs. Don’t know but if we would have known ahead of time, we wouldn’t have approved of this facility.
