As an artist I have done murals, commercial work, and numerous canvas pieces. I enjoy going wherever the winds take my brushes. Parodies, collages & ???
Kirby Lewis, a native of Berkeley County, has been an artist since he was five years old.
As Kirby likes to tell it, his first show was located on the side porch of his parents’ home in Hedgesville. It was a complete “sell-out” thanks to his loyal art patrons, who
consisted of his Grandmother and her neighbor friend buying all of his cartooned works!
Kirby studied art at Shepherd University in the early 70s & 80s and experienced the world first-hand through a stint in the military (U.S. Navy). It was this opportunity that afforded him a glimpse into our world from outside of his homeland.
Although Kirby has been a professional sign-painter, graphic artist, muralist and designer; it is only within the past 20 years he has officially accepted his role as a canvas artist. He paints in several genres which are evident by his past works. Many of these can be found locally, at many of the King’s New York Pizza locations. While Kirby’s works hang in several businesses & homes around Berkeley County; his works can also be found elsewhere around the country, from Florida to New York to California to Washington State. His canvas pieces range in size from his preferred size, around 4’x4’ to as large as 8’x 32’.
While Kirby has done plenty of commission works in the past, he now prefers to concentrate on areas that he enjoys most. He says “this allows him to breathe life into his brushstrokes”.
