While the cashiers have lots of personality and so seem to genuinely care, the store seems really dingy compared to the one I usually shop at. I don't know if it's the lighting or the fact the electronics section is so much more bare when compared to a competitor like Walmart, but it's legitimately depressing the closer you get to the rear of the store.
I'm so pissed off!!! Why can't I exchange a pack of diapers without a receipt?!?! It's not like I wanted to return them for money. I got them at my baby shower and my daughter grew out of that size so all I wanted was a larger size. Everywhere else like Walmart, Target, babies r us, etc. Never gave me any problems. I guess since it's tax season I will just be taking my money elsewhere. No wonder you keep losing costumers.
We went to return some clothing and to get a water bottle, plastic hangars and a button-cell battery we lead a notably exciting life!. All items found and all activities completed without problem. Front desk girl for the returns was very kind, helpful and personable.
It seems that every time I go to Kmart for something specific they don't have it. Last trip, they didn't even have the vacuum filter to the vacuum that I bought at that very store. 6/14/15 Update Lack of common products is still a problem as is quality products. The pharmacy has been a disaster for the last year after a good pharmacist left. It looks like there is a new pharmacist who is doing a decent job and things have improved. The pharmacy seriously needs a 2nd register. I would also avoid purchasing Kmart products online if possible. I recently purchased a dehumidifier because of a coupon and to use up some points and it took two weeks to be delivered. 1/4/2018 The other day I experienced my first trip in years that I had four items on my list and they had all four. If I need one or two things there is a sporting chance that they have everything, but that they had four things that I needed hasn't happened in years. It's not so much that things are improving but that I had a stroke of luck. World according to Ben, Kmart needs to do dramatic things not to suck or at least to survive. Here are my suggestions in general and for this store in particular: 1. Get rid of cashiers. I think cashiers are a useful position at many stores but at Kmart, with a couple of exceptions, they aren't doing anyone any favors so they might as well automate this and save the money. Just make people scan their own stuff and have a human at the service desk in case there are problems or someone tries to run off with things. 2. Open 24 hours. With the savings in manpower, they could be open longer. 3. Change the name. The Kmart name is at best associated with a bygone era where it was a giant in retail. My humble suggestions include just renaming it to Sears preferably with some sort of subtitle like Sears: Everyday or Sears: Blue harkening to the blue light special or just the letter K to be known as "the K." 4. Remodel or don't remodel. The 'remodel' that happened at the Etown store made me think that they were just re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I don't think it benefited their image locally at all. 5. Eliminate some categories at the Etown location and expand others. As a consumer, I'd be much happier knowing that if I went to their sporting goods section or toys or wherever that I had a 99% chance of getting what I wanted. As it is, it's a roll of the dice. If they got rid of the pile of mattresses, refrigerated food, and some other categories they would have the space to expand their inventory in other areas. I'd be more apt to go in and buy then instead of worrying whether I'm going to waste my time, so I buy from Amazon and wait the two days.
I will never go back to Kmart for any shopping. Tried to exchange s.th. with receipt. Girl at desk was incredibly rude. Told me the item was not on receipt and could not give refund. It was! After 10 minutes I finally got refund over my debit card . The other items I bought ,i did not even get a bag for them. I just stuffed them in my handbag . Never been treated like this before.
Quality of goods is lacking. Cheap stuff without a cheap price tag. No selection. You will be lucky if you even find what you're looking for. Fantastic place to go if you have lots of money that you want to spend, but you don't really want anything to show for it.
More and more empty shelves every day. What they do have in stock is discontinued so don't expect to be able to do a trade in if you need to return an item. They either need to admit that they are going out of business and put everything on sale or just flat out close. Pointless to even shop here.
This place is horrible!!! Everytime my fiance or I go to cash our checks that are not even over $500 they always say they dont have cash to cash the checks. Like seriously, what kind of store doesnt have cash? And even so, if you dont have cash to cash checks then, dont offer check cashing services if you cant keep up with the demand. And on top of that, the customer service ladies look like they dont even want to work there! Really bad customer service overall.
Kmart, for when you need..."something" but don't feel like driving anywhere else. Seriously don't know how they are still in business. This particular store is staffed by rude and/or incompetent people. I'm sure there are a few decent people there but I've yet to see them.
Poor customer service. Tried to contact their corporate and after an hour and a half on the chat and via phone, was given a generic, sorry, we cant help you. Ill just frive the xtra 10 minutes to Target.
