La Cave du Vin

Classic Cleveland Heights underground bar. This dimly lit basement haunt provides a wide selection of craft beers. Just pick your favorite and give it to the bartender to open. They also have a decent draft program with hard to find beers on tap. Many people also come to enjoy the wide selection of wine. While not serving a full menu they do offer an assortment of cheese boards and other snacks.

I mean this as a compliment: This place epitomizes the "hole in the wall." Not in a dive-bar-ish kind of way, but in the sense that it's tucked away. Every time I go there I am reminded of how much I love it. Excellent selection of craft beers and of course wines, and great table snacks such as bread and cheese boards. The atmosphere can't be beat. I LOVE the fake windows that look out into nothing it sounds weird but it's actually really cool.

This place is super quircky and interesting. Reminds me of Bohemian bars in college towns, so adds much needed variety to the night life in Cleveland Heights. You never know what's gonna be happening on any given night, for example we stopped by the other evening and they were having a goth night, and gave out a gift basket to the best dressed patron. No food here, just good drinks and great atmosphere

Delicious drinks, loved how secluded it was. Got there within 30 minutes of opening. Bartender was oddly rude and frantic. After the second time he said something totally off color, I made it apparent that I didn't appreciate his attitude. He quickly adjusted his tone and we enjoyed our night.

In pondering this review, I searched my heart to try to find one darn thing that I do NOT love about La Cave du Vin and I Could. Not. Do it. So, I'll elaborate on my 5-star rating by simply expounding the many ways in which I love this grape-seedy vin joint - no down side in sight: From the tucked-away staircase that leads you down to the Cave, you enter into its chamber that always feels like midnight, no matter the time. The dark is velveteen, Stygian, broken only by twinkle lights and candles and the cigarette machine in the rear vestibule harkens back to a more reckless, bohemian age. Damn this place is sexy. Sure, you might receive some brusque service on occasion and you can certainly sense that, were the room brighter, it would likely appear dingy - and that's part of what I love about the place. The Cave feels like the subversive kind of hangout that, as a child in the early-to-mid '90's, I imagined myself one day frequenting but which no longer seems to exist. It is a perfect place to have a deep conversation with a close friend, experiment with yet-bolder levels of flirtation with a date, or, simply, to quietly enjoy one of the best-curated wine and beer selections in the area. Never have I had a glass of wine at the Cave that was anything short of excellent. I now like to tempt fate when I go here, simply pointing at a selection from the wine list and ordering blindly. Sublime, every time. Go with someone you'd like to either get to know better or 'accidentally' fondle beneath a tiny melamine tabletop. Spring for a bottle and the cheese board and you're guaranteed a deeply enjoyable evening.

Service is spotty but they have a good selection of beers and other spirits so a recommendation is in order. I like that melt is nearby and honestly I like this a bit better than Winking Lizard. Great chill place to grab a couple of drinks.

Itsva good thng you Dont meet the bartenders until you go to the bar because they make this place seem like its not a place for people of a darker skin tone I was told that the police would be called on me because I was asking for the contact information to the owner of bar! I was charged to different prices for the same drink but I tipped the male bartender because he was just a little bit nicer then the female. This was the worse night of my life it was terrible I actually asked the bartenders was I bringing treated like that because I was black and I was just pulling stuff out my a** cause I was confused long story short I will never return here

Cool little bar my friend took me to while visiting. Would be a nice place for a date. Has a unique selection of beers and wine.

A little uppity and a hipster vibe... setting that aside, they have an excellent drink selection, however you should probably have a knowledge of what you want to drink or even try. I don't think these guys serve domestics but if you're into craft beers, GoGoGo

I love this place. Great for a quiet date night or to just meet up with friends. It's very dimly lit and the wine selection is very good
