I was a member of LA Fitness for years and they never updated the equipment or replaced the flooring.  When I tried to cancel my membership I found that the process is archaic, time consuming, and inconvenient.  You can sign up for a membership on-line, but you either need to go to the gym you no longer want to use or you have to jump through hoops to finally get to a form that you need to print and send back by SNAILMAIL!  If I could have given them a 0 Star review, I would have.

Place is shut down/no longer exists

This is a disgusting, low class, unprofessional, scamming place of business.  My wife was somewhat pressured into signing a one-year "training" agreement which unfortunately, she is still owed about 15, or more, sessions.  She told them we were moving after the first year and she was assured there would be no problem in receiving all of her agreed upon sessions.  Not even close to being true.  I have emailed one of the VP's for a full refund and if we don't get that we will take it to small claims court which I'm sure we will be forced to do.  If you can join another fitness center, then do so.  This is truly a "buyer beware" opportunity.

I went in to get a Silver Sneaker membership, which my insurance pays for. The Counselor they assigned me to insisted I get a trainer...which I told them I did not want nor could afford. They would not listen to me. I told them I was only in the area for 4 months and did not want a year. I went back daily after that demanding to speak to someone about canceling. I kept being told there were no counselors in to speak to. I finally found one several days later, who sent an email to corporate asking them to cancel my membership. I tried to do the free session with the trainer and one time after that since they had taken out a month's membership and would not give me my money back. I kept telling him my left shoulder was spasming and in a lot of pain. He would not listen to me. I ended up going to a massage therapist. I finally saw a specialist for spine problems because I was told by several healthcare practitioners that I had a possible torn rotator cuff. NO ONE at LA Fitness will listen to me or help me resolve this issue. I had to finally put a stop payment on my bank account so they cannot charge me any longer. I have to get my dr to write a note saying I cannot use the gym due to my should injury. BUYER BEWARE!

I recently joined LA Fitness at the Toms River location. The staff is a great group of people. James B, the GM of the location is enthusiastic and truly cares about my health and fitness. He has been the encouragement I needed as a new member in my mid-fifties. I would encourage anyone who is on the fence about joining to go ahead and get started. The staff will help you get organized and on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

I am a long time member of LA Fitness.  Generally, it is fantastic.   Unfortunately, the Farmingdale, NY location slaps "Scheduled For Repair" notes on its machines and it remains there for months.  A quick inventory on the way out yesterday, I counted eight weight machines without pins.  This has been a growing problem that started last fall.  Does LA Fitness have a policy to guide patrons when arguments break out on whether a pin goes to a machine or to the person that takes it to use on a different machine lacking a pin?  Is there a safety issue when a 3/8" pin is used on machines that are designed for a 5/8" pin because it lacks a pin?  Is LA Fitness trying to reduce membership at Farmingdale to justify a closing?  Too much time is wasted looking for pins, and complaining to management seems an equally wasteful use of time.  LA Fitness could at least fix the pin issue for under $100.  WT#?!!!
