Toco Hills LA Fitness member since 2005. Loved this gym when I first started: solid variety of equipment and weights, friendly staff, it was very clean and the gym temperature was effectively regulated with each season. 2015 and 2016 Summers: Toco Hills air conditioning broken. As a temporary fix several large industrial fans were brought in to circulate the air. OCTOBER 2017: Toco Hills location received a much needed renovation. During this renovation ceiling fans were installed in the aerobics room and the spin room, yet nothing was installed on the main floor of the gym. Members were told that the HVAC systems had been replaced, yet the AC was still not adequately cooling the gym. Operations manager said the new system was not equipped to remove the humidity from the gym - which is the entire purpose of having an AC system. An easy solution for air circulation would have been floor fans, yet management stated they had no intentions of purchasing fans. Decided to explore the Ansley Mall, Decatur and Brookhaven locations. Different locations with the same exact issues. 2018-2022: Took my concerns to corporate management to discuss the deterioration of the Toco Hills location. Spoke to multiple customer service reps to express my dissatisfaction with the daily maintenance and overall service at Toco Hills. Each customer service rep. stated “they would look into it”, then no action was ever taken. I was told they would reach out to the local gym manager and would followup with me within a day or so. Not one customer service rep. ever followed through. Not one. JUNE/JULY 2023 see attached photos: No improvements have been made as everything in the gym continues to decline. It’s unfortunate the level of care, concern for safety, condition of equipment doesn’t appear to be a priority for LAF. • Overall gym and equipment is filthy • A good portion of the lockers in the mens locker room are completely unusable — doors are hanging off hinges, doors are broken, and hardware is missing so you can’t secure your belongings with a lock • Cleaning supplies and paper towels are always empty, or have been removed altogether • Many HVAC vents are covered in black filth • AC still not cooling the gym. Absolutely no air flow on the free weight floor. • Broken equipment is often UNDER SERVICE for months at a time. Butterfly machine, leg machines, etc.. • Equipment grips and seat covers need to be replaced • Where is the cleaning staff? LAF used to have an actual staff that would clean the gym AND the equipment. That has not happened since right after COVID. • Broken tv has yet to be replaced after 7+ months • Sound system is busted in the mens locker room • Busted/broken mirrors took months to replace • Weights are always left on the equipment Planet Fitness and CRUNCH are expanding in the metro-Atlanta market and local gym goers are raving about their experiences. Both brands offer a superior health and fitness experience that once defined LA Fitness many years ago. People expect the basics at a gym: up-to-date, functioning equipment, a thoroughly clean gym, and a staff dedicated to giving members a positive fitness experience. Thankfully we now have better options than LAF.
LA Fitness checks nearly every box for the gym I want: Friendly and encouraging staff, an exceptional variety of free weights and machines, a lap pool, plenty of shower stalls, and a sauna. Even more important to my needs: the personal trainers at this location are fantastic—especially Melissa S. and Travis T. I’m certain the rest are equally great. Not only do the trainers create new sessions tailored to your individual fitness needs, but friendships are forged in the process. They go beyond being great trainers: they’re great humans, which is crucial for making me feel accountable in maintaining my fitness goals! Just a few club-related nitpicks: many of the lockers are broken on the men’s side, and it’s difficult to find sanitizing spray to wipe down the machines after use.
Generally, it's a good club. Could be a lot cleaner. Especially around the pool/showers. Hot tub is frequently out of service for extended periods. It is not unusual for people to have to be reminded to use the hot tub in their bathing suit and not just their underwear.
I have been to better LA fitness’s but there is nothing wrong with this one. Some of the equipment is a little outdated and could use some upgrades. Outside of that it is a perfectly good gym. This one is closest to were I live so I fine myself at this quite often. There are plenty of of treadmills and stationary bikes to use. Very rarely do you have to wait to use any of them. There are also plenty of tv’s around the cardio fitness section of the gym. The selection of weights and machinery is a little small but you can still get in a good workout. They offer both a swimming and a whirl pool, fitness classes and personal trainers. There is a section of the gym closed off to people that are using personal trainers and they do have a bit more to offer workout wise than the rest of the gym. The staff is friendly and the facility is kept clean. Overall this one of the better gyms in the area from my experience.
9/8/23 the manager on sight in the morning at 8am was literally the best manager I’ve ever come across as a customer. She had to apologize on behalf of her employee before her employee ever came up to us and complained about training my friend when we were JUST working out together. The most understanding individual to withhold the establishment to customer’s satisfaction. Apparently her employee has gotten complaints and into arguments with customers a couple times and she just wanted to make sure we cool. I gave it 4 stars for the team, and took a star away from the lack of equipment and equipment handling. Place looks beat down and been used for years
Everyone at this facility is outstanding!! Travis, Zee and my own trainer, Alyster, are all GOATS at running and executing a fitness center. The level of customer care and service is off the charts. Note that this is my first experience working out regularly at a gym and working with a big franchise.
In my opinion this is the nicest LA fitness in Atlanta. It's pretty clean, the staff is okay, and it's not as crowded as the other ones. I can't speak for the pool or personal training because I haven't used either, but the weights and cardio equipment are solid.
This is my backup gym if my workout partner isn't available. The only thing I wish they had was racquetball courts, but this gym is on the slightly smaller side so I'm not going to let that affect my rating. While the gym IS on the slightly smaller side, it still sees decent traffic. It's in a pretty good location as well. Usually well maintained. Plenty of equipment except maybe during peak times where it can be close to full on treadmills, or having to wait on one piece of equipment. Have no intention to stop visiting this gym and will be back whenever convenience calls for it.
I wish I could give a better review, however I signed up for a Free 3 Day Pass since I moved close by and really wanted to give it a try and potentially make it my new gym. The facility has everything I need and the sauna and pool is a nice addition. However, when I got there on Thursday, 4/27 I almost felt that I bother the girl that "helped" me from her lunch, and all she did is to take a picture and tell me that I am all set. I made sure to mention that this is my first time there and I got a pass, however I was left to figure out on my own where are the bathrooms, showers, classes, and everything else in the facility. I walked around and eventually did my work out, but it left me feel like maybe they are too busy for new customers and I started looking at other places near by. Customer service is important in any business and for such a big name and facility, it should not be any different.
The equipment at this facility as well as my personal-training sessions with Alyster have been high quality. Only on one occasion have I encountered equipment that was in disrepair. However, within a couple of days, this equipment was fully operable. Beyond the equipment at this facility, though, I have been most impressed by my personal trainer, Alyster. He has been challenging yet supportive in the fitness routines through which he guides me. In workout sessions, he not only demonstrates what I should do, but he clearly explains in detail how I should complete exercises to avoid injury. The clear instructions that Alyster provides have enabled me, on the days when I do not have person training, to exercise on my own with greater assurance that I am exercising properly, safely, and effectively. I greatly appreciate that Alyster is both a personal trainer who is a teacher, someone who throughout the workout session not only points out what I should do but who also explains why and how certain ways of moving within my workout session are vital if my exercises are to be effective.Additionally, I am deeply grateful to Alyster for not only helping me improve my fitness level but for also helping my 85-year-old mother do the same. Though she experienced some recent health challenges, she has been improving. The highlight of her week is coming to a training session with Alyster. He honors the ways in which she is able to move; yet, he listens to her if she indicates that certain exercises are beyond her physical ability. As you can see in the provided photo, the routine that Alyster has established for her is meant to build up both her strength and maintain her mobility.
