We stopped here just to check it out because it seemed like a cool little place to walk through. Overall, I can say we were blown away but the size of the building. It was huge. The place is very well kept with a lot of great information to read. There were so many articles from both the town and history in general. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys history. Not the greatest place for little kids. I loved the old cars and all of the guns. A must see if you are in LaPorte. You can’t beat the $5 admission price either.
Great museum! Very nice collection of cars and other old memorabilia. Displays of typical home life, dentists office, Dr office, huge antique and unique firearm collection!! Highly recommend a visit to this place.
Went with friends to listen to speakers on Belle Gunness. Very informative. The LAPORTE Museum is a nice way to gain history on Laporte and it’s something to do that doesn’t cost a lot of money. They have a nice little gift shop. You can become a member for as little as $15 and they have informational meetings on different topics.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
3 levels of the most cool and interesting local history!! From a wide variety car collection to a historically famous gun collection, this place is full of surprises including the in depth story of a local woman serial killer! A must see for all locals and tourists alike!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
Fantastic little museum. There is a little something for everyone. Prominent exhibits included antique and interesting cars, antique firearms, children's toys, and frontier relics. The $5 entry fee for adults was well worth it. Anyone under 18 gets free admission.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
The staff is insanely knowledge about absolutely everything in the incredible collection. The volunteers are unbelievably friendly, helpful, and passionate. Ask questions when you go and you'll be thrilled by what you'll learn!
This is an absolutely first class museum of collections, artwork, period room settings and a top notch car collection. The building itself is gorgeous, spacious and bright. Great for all ages and interests. My favorites are the mint condition automobiles. You’ll find a Tucker, a 1964.5 Mustang, Auburns, Studebakers, Citroen, Mercedes, etc. There is also one of the most extensive and complete collections of antique firearms. Also, lots of information and artifacts on the infamous murderess, Belle Gunness! You must put it on your must see list!!
Excellent place to learn about the history of LA porte county Indiana. If you love vintage automobiles it is also a great place to see some very rare vehicles!
There is so much LaPorte history here that you will need to give yourself at least 3 or more hours to check it all out. Very fun and affordable a must visit if you love history.
