About

Infants - 8th Grade

Description

La Scuola is an inquiry based, Reggio Emilia inspired, progressive school located in Miami, Florida, welcoming children from 3 months - 8th grade.

La Scuola fosters a nurturing environment of open-ended exploration, curiosity and growth for children, teachers, and parents that deepens our connections to the community and the world around us. Our school is committed to providing authentic language exposure to children through student-directed activities that incorporate service-learning, community involvement, environmental activism, and culturally based experiences. It is our main objective to foster a connection between children of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds in an environment that fosters curiosity and exploration.

We view children as powerful individuals. We respect children for who they are now, as well as for their potential. While we are focused on preparing children for their future, we also attend to their current intellectual and creative needs, making their days in our school as fulfilling as we hope their futures will be.

Our school has spacious classrooms in addition to many other learning environments. There is a center Piazza, located at the entrance of the school, which welcomes the children, parents, staff and visitors. It is a space filled with natural light filtering through the large windows that provokes the exchange of information between the inside and the outside: the season, the weather, and the light at different times of the day. It is an inviting place in the school that encourages encounters between the children, the families, and the teachers, where stories are created and where relationships surface!

In the entrance of our school, you will also find an Atelier, our Art Studio. It is a place where children come to use many different materials as they express and develop theories about the world around them. It is a special workshop that provides the children the opportunity to interact with an array of materials that spark their curiosity as they discover and experiment. The atelier is a place for the individual exploration of projects connected with experiences projected in the different classrooms of our school or proposed by the Atelierista, the art studio teacher. It is a place for researching motivations and theories of children and a place for exploring variations of tools, techniques, and materials with which to work. Our Atelier is rich in its simplicity, displaying that which we really use; things we are connected to; things we consider beautiful, and things that are real to us because we are surrounded by them. This is a special place where children express their one hundred languages in many different ways!

Our school also has a kitchen where hot balanced organic meals are prepared and a dining area with large windows facing the outdoor playground. The children use the kitchen as another learning environment. Through real cooking experiences students cover mathematical and scientific concepts, planning, thinking, and time management skills. From one year olds to the students in the elementary program, children are given the opportunity to master cooking skills, encouraged to be creative, understand and learn about healthy eating habits while learning about responsibility and having tons of fun!

We have wall-sized windows and unbreakable mirrors placed on the floors, walls and ceilings that establish a space filled with opportunity. Rather than the usual store bought decorations that traditional schools have, our school’s walls are used as spaces for temporary and permanent exhibits of what the children and teachers are researching. The documentation panels cover the walls throughout the school as if they were a second skin. They substantiate the value of memory and narration as a right and a vital quality of our educational environment.

"La Scuola is a progressive forest school that welcomes children from ages 3 months to 8th grade. Tucked within 3 acres of lush and sprawling forest, our campus is surrounded by mature trees, an abundance of wildlife, and beautiful edible landscapes. The nature that surrounds our school is at the heart of our philosophy. At La Scuola, it is our belief that the exploration of the natural world is the richest source of learning. Our progressive school is also heavily inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. This approach asserts that children are born capable, with innate creativity, and with a sense of wonder that should be nurtured."

This school teaches love of environment, learning and others as well as integrated arts into daily learning. The teachers send daily updates with photos to the parents and are always will to answer questions. The school is flexible and staff is friendly. My child loves being at this school. Everyone cares about the children and their growth. Great school!
Love the school. I have been sending my son there since he was 18 months old and my daughter since she was 12 weeks old. The teachers and teachers assistants are amazing! They love the kids and you can tell that they truly love working with children. Since the time my daughter was able to sit up they had her painting and learning. My son is now 3 and has learned so much. They do weekly cooking in the classrooms, yoga, tons of hands on arts and crafts, and great outdoors projects.
Please note that you will not be respected in this school. It is run by a family and they do not communicate to parents at all. You can send 100+ emails and/or call them, they will either promise you something that will never happen, will lie to you in the face or will not respond at all and ignore you. Materials you are required to bring will never be used and will not be returned. The portfolio they promise, will never be made. Dirty place, the teachers come and go, and some cannot even speak English. Children come home with dirty clothes, diapers and the diapers get mixed up all the time. If they make a mistake in the expenses, good luck getting your money back! Look around and do not waste a dime on this school.
Are you looking for an elementary school where the philosophy is having FUN? This school is for you! I, however, prefer that students address their teachers by their titles and last names, treat their "special classes" Spanish, art, music teachers with respect, and witness by example that the first rule of learning is discipline. The administration is very relaxed and finds communication a difficult burden but very sweet nonetheless. The only male around is the janitor who doesn't speak English, so the children lack a sense of strong masculinity in their school day. Laissez faire schooling has proven to be unsuitable for our family.
ok honestly i see all these reviews complaining and they were from parents, but i used to be a student here, and me and my mom can tell you its one one the BEST schools out there. even though it might be a little dirty, the projects and other activity's are really worth it at the end. anyway, this schools is squeaky clean compared to the schools i go to now. i wished i stayed in this school, but whatever. i went here from 2010 - 2014. would reccemend 10/10
My Grandson has been going there for years and he is so advanced compared to other children his age. Ms. Barbie, Ms. Olga, Ms. Stephanie are all amazing, I admire them greatly!
Very good education they give to the students Keep in that way.
