The food was pretty good for the most part. The Sangria was great, we really loved it. We sat on the high-tops overlooking the harbor so the view was amazing. However, the service was slow and the waiter seemed to be more in a hurry to get out of the heat than check on us. He did not even bring us water or ask us if we wanted anything else to drink. The food would have made me come back, but the service will definately keep me away.
My waiter took the order and that's the last we saw of him = no tip. The salad I got was not worth the $9 it cost me - The dressing tasted sour and the shrimp was rather gamy. My fiance's dish contained a clam and an oyster as well as grains of sand, and wasn't very good at all. The menu lacked a thorough description of the dishes, as most of the effort was spent printing the entire thing in Spanish. The restaurant was an enormous disappointment overall. So, now my fiance, friend and I are ordering pizza...
Service slow even during a not-busy time. Crab cakes were disappointing; canned crab, long on filler, short on flavor and plain mayo as a sauce. Sauteed spinach was good but very light on the advertised cranberries a surprisingly good addition. It was an adequate meal with a good view but I wish I had read the reviews first; I would not recommend to friends.
I enjoyed dining at La Tasca, especially because we were able to sit on the balcony overlooking the harbor. The food was pricey it looks cheap, but since it's tapas, you have to order a lot, but good. I recommend the seafood combo 8 items for $50 which was not quite enough for 5 people, plus a couple extras. The sangria was excellent.
The appeal of this place is definitely the food. I have had a lot of Spanish food and this is one of my favorite experiences. While I love authentic Spanish cuisine, La Tasca has modified its menu items for an American palette. The result is excellent. I went on a day where there was an unlimited tapas deal and left so happy. The service was ok, nothing special, but I had what I needed and new plates constantly coming. It was not very busy when I was there. I very much enjoyed my experience here.
I went for Restaurant Week with a group of 8 people and had a great time, but it wasn't because of the service or food. Maybe our large group caused some confusion, but really, they should know how to handle large orders. The tapas were ok. I got the Pan a la Catalana basically a Spanish version of bruchetta, the Buey a la Plancha steak with potato slices and mushrooms, and the Croquettas de Pollo y Jamon chicken and ham, pureed and shaped into balls, then breaded and deep fried. The Pan a la Catalana was cold when they brought out the food and the tomatoes had already soaked into the bread. Several people ordered the Buey a la Plancha, but the server just doled them out without specifying how they were cooked and which sauce was which. It was tasty, but it would have been better hot. They forgot a couple of our tapas including my Croquettas, but our waitress pretty much disappeared for 20 minutes after our food came out so I had to flag down another waiter to get her for us. She said our missing food was probably waiting to be served and came back another 20 minutes later with the only hot dishes we got all night. At least the Croquettas were tasty, but not worth waiting for 40 minutes. The only real positive note of the food was the dessert. The almond and pear tarte is amazing and is the only reason this review got 3 stars instead of 2. If I ever go to La Tasca again, it'll be for the sangria and dessert after having a better dinner somewhere else.
First experience of restaurant only deserves 1 star because the food was good but everything else was awful. Clearly the manager was having a bad day but that is no reason to be rude to other patrons. First impression dealing with a pissed off manager, second being seated and not receiving service after 5 minutes wait. The other party of 4 that came in at the same time we arrived left the restaurant since they had receive the same awful service. We decided to stick it out - the service did not get any better as time went by.....the only 1 star is that when our food came it was great!! too bad such good food comes with such awful service - bottom line its not worth being treated like Sh**t in order to receive good food.
Get a half pitcher of sangria, it's a great deal. $16 for the half pitcher and you are able to get 5 cups out of it. Great for sharing between two people. Service was very fast and efficient. The Jamon Serrano is delicious and cost $6.
The food was delicious; the sangria, even better! Our waiter was awesome as well. My wife and I just did several tapas and a pitcher of Sangria Rosado. Everything was great.
I got the "pato con lentejas" slow roasted duck with herbs and orange peel & lentils. It ended up being a duck leg in a thin tomato based broth with lentils. The duck had no duck flavor. It could have been chicken for all the flavor it had and I didn't taste any orange flavor. However the shrimp and bacon wrapped scallops skewers were excellent and my wife loved her "ensalada de tomatoes". We also had a great view of the harbor. Unfortunately, service was a bit slow.
