Latino Food Center
We are a non profit organization dedicated to the improvement of the lives of members of our community.
We recognize that communities are made of up individuals and if the individuals are surviving well, so then does the community.
A key barrier in our society today is drug addiction. Drugs ruin the lives of many. So we set one of our main targets as drug education and seminars. To that end, I attended a seminar in April 2013 which was addressed to drug educators and those who seek to prevent drug addiction in our society. The first speaker of that seminar was Sheriff Lee Baca. He gave a very inspiring speech and then turned it over to one of his deputies. The deputy was in charge of “vida.la” which is a dept in the Sheriff's office that helps high risk youth and their families.
The deputy that spoke said by far the most effective program they used was the program set out by The Drug Free World organization. (See www.drugfreeworld.org) He stated that this program and the materials which come with it are effective in getting youth to realize on their own that drugs are harmful. I obtained a copy of that program so that we can institute it. Some of the other organizations that had representative attending this seminar are listed below.
