This is a fantastic gym. I have belonged to many gyms, mostly in the Boston area. When I first walked into latitudes I was first impressed with its cleanliness. The staff is extremely friendly. The locker rooms are exceptional, clean and well maintained. The facilities have everything you could want. A steam room, sauna and whirlpool. The pool is a saltwater pool that does not bother me at all. Chlorine pools kill my eyes. This does not at all. This club welcomes people of all ages. The elderly, kids, young adult, adults, and families. People are of all fitness levels. This is one of the best parts. It was very discouraging being not in the best shape and going into a gym with all athletes. Not the case here at all. This is a gem of a gym!
Pretty decent facilities. Good machines and weights if that what you want. Why did I join? Because I wanted to use the pool---which is nice. I've been a member for quite a while. My main gripe is that the majority of the pool is reserved for swim teams during the most rational time for someone to want to use the gym. Four of the six lanes are often taken from 4:30-8:30pm. How many working people can get out of work to get there by ~3:30 to swim? Few How about going after 8:30 pm? Even fewer. Why is the swim team's work out more important than mine?
First, I am not a member of this gym. I am leaving this review with regard to their swimming lessons and facility for the kids swim programs. If I were submitting a review for the quality of lesson, then I would be giving it 4/5 stars because of one teacher: Ms. Vicky. But here’s the caveat; the facility and pool is an entirely different story. That deserves, at most, two stars. Why? First: cleanliness. On two separate occasions I have brought to their attention that there is NO SOAP in the men’s bathroom. That’s inexcusable and unsanitary. Second: they only have one family changing room, which is ridiculous when with each class changeover there are nearly twenty plus children needing to change. Third: very limited seating around the pool. Personally, I can stand for a while but I witnessed a grandparent trying to find a place to sit whose only option was the ground. Two measley benches are not adequate. Making improvements for these items is not a significant expense: a little goes a long way!
This gym is not where it should be. The front desk staff here are very good. Quick and Efficient. The machines are fine, no issues there. Pool area tends to get crowded so swimming is limited. The filth and cleanliness is continuously ignored by BSC, and previous latitude owners. The showers are uneven in the mens locker room causing water to pool around your feet, the shower near the pool entrance in mens locker room always cold. They need someone with a good eye to make improvements and clean this facility better. Unfortunately most comments are on deff ears and my guess is they just want to collect members dues and not invest in some basic upgrades. Plus the amount of seniors who are always naked around the locker room like a country club watching the news etc is a bit offputting. The gym needs to be updated and remodeled. It's very tired and not laid out efficiently.
I signed up and have had a great experience so far. When signing up you have to get a free consultation and as a person with anxiety I almost cancelled. However, when I got there my consultant made me feel very comfortable. I am very out of shape so she encouraged me to get a personal trainer. With my anxiety this made me very nervous but my trainer is great. She allows me to work in secluded areas and is slowly trying to get to get me on the main floor. I have had a really positive experience here.
First off let me say I was a member for over 15 yrs. I join when the place was Gold's Gym. I had my membership canceled by the manger at Salisbury because of a comment I made while I was trying to get a hold of somebody from the new ownership BSC. I try calling them and no answer, so I went over to the operator and a recording came up saying they weren't taking calls at this time. So I found their comment section and commented. First off, maybe I shouldn't have started the response by saying "Hey F###heads" and then calling the place a s###hole and then telling them to F###off. Oh well, I did and have no regrets. What prompted the response was for the last couple of years or longer I've seen Salisbury become dirty and dirty. The equipment is beat up and no one does maintenance. Aftering looking at the same piece of gum on the basketball court for 3 months I figured this place is toast. But what finally got me going was a piece of equipment "torso rotation" which was broken for over a month with a sign on it saying out of order. When the equipment finally got fixed, so I thought because the sign was gone and went to use it, it was still broken. I waited another two weeks to see if they would fix it and guess what nothing. I told the front desk hoping next time in I'd see if fixed or a "out of service" sign. But no, still broken. I grabbed one of the staff and ask WTF is going on? The staff said the maintenance person was hurt and would still be out for a while. I asked if they were going to get a replacement for him till he got back. The staff member had no answer. Then I asked the staff person why there wasn't a sign on the equipment stating it was "out of service". The staff person said they didn't have anymore signs. It's a word doc which can be printed up in 10 seconds. That's when I lost it and did the comment thing. I put up with the gym for a long time because of the rate I was grandfather into because of being a member for so long. It's sad to see this place turn into a rat hole, but I feel they believe their the only game in town and can get away with that, but they aren't they only game in town. I did join another gym and I saw something which I have not seen in years at Salisbury Latitude someone actually cleaning and mopping a floor. I was blown away. So all in all I'm glad I got canceled, sometimes a door closes and then another door opens.
I was very unimpressed with their customer service. My husband joined and I piggybacked off his membership and added my name. It still cost @$100 a month for us both to be members. I never even recieved a tour of the facility but I did get harassed to have a personalized fitness evaluation for another $100 and asked repeatedly to get involved with a trainer the hourly cost was laughable. Now we are talking about a facility in Salisbury, MA. My daughter lives in NYC and pays less for a monthly gym membership. And to top it off I was rarely greeted with a smile and a hello when I walked in....the employees behind the desk were too busy chatting amongst themselves. Bottom line way to pricey for a gym!
This place is honestly a pain in the rear. First, its incredibly expensive if you go only to lift. The weights and machines are great but its not worth the price. One or two pieces of equipment are down pretty much at all times and the benches themselves aren't well maintained. If you use the classes here/play basketball, it might be worth it, but not if your going to solely lift. Second, the contracts are ridiculous and the fine print forces you to buy out your contract if you want to leave early. I didn't read the fine print like a fool and found out my contract automatically re-upped when I graduated college for two years. Additionally, you pay last month up front and you have to cancel 2 months out before the 15th of the month. Third, other people here are honestly some of the rudest people I have been around. They stare at you when you work out, they never strip their weights and definitely don't wipe down their equipment after using it. The trainers will kick you off of equipment if they have a personal training lesson. I have had an older woman kick me out of an area because she was with a client. One additional note, they have a TRX station but you cant use it, even if you bring your own straps. You must rent theirs and take their classes.
I come seasonally and it is a bonus to be able to stay a month however I find that $80 is pretty expensive. Some of the monitors on treadmills are malfunctioned and a couple out of order. Blinds in large windows broken and sun blazing through windows unbearable. Relatively clean however men’s bathroom/change room sometimes smells. Always difficult to find safety clips for bench press.
The individuals with any info about memberships apparently work bankers' hours, something like 10-3. Neither the membership prices nor these few hours available for sign up are listed on their website. Good for them if they have such a thriving business that they can staff the sign up process so sparingly. For a person with a job, the lack of pricing or hours transparency as well as the poor support is very frustrating.
