Legal Services for the Elderly is a nonprofit organization with a statewide helpline and area offices in five locations: Augusta; Bangor; Lewiston; Presque Isle; and Scarborough.
LSE provides Maine residents age 60 and over with free legal advice regarding housing (including foreclosure), health care, health insurance, Medicare (including Part D), MaineCare (Medicaid), Social Security and other public benefits, pension and retirement benefits, powers of attorney, consumer matters including creditor and bankruptcy problems, physical and financial abuse, guardianship defense and other issues.
Seniors who need legal help should call the LSE toll-free number, 1-800-750-5353, to speak with an attorney. LSE also provides seniors and the disabled with help getting needed prescription drugs under Medicare Part D. To reach the Medicare Part D Appeals Unit call toll free at 1-877-774-7772.
Legal Services for the Elderly's mission is to provide free, high quality legal services to Maine's socially and economically needy elderly aged 60 and over.
Attorney consultations available through statewide toll free helpline; legal representation available in certain civil matters; help in appealing denials under Medicare Part D; referrals offered when services are not available through Legal Services for the Elderly.
