About

First in Style, First in Quality, Since 1935

Description

A landmark business in the downtown area is celebrating an important anniversary — 80 years in business. No one could be more pleased than Ricky Leinwand, owner/operator of Leinwands.

Isaac Leinwand immigrated to the United States from Austria in 1907. Before coming to Elizabethtown, Leinwand first settled in Branchville, S.C.

Isaac Leinwand was not the only one operating a clothing store though — his brother Moses Leinwand had earlier opened a business in Reidsville.

The original Elizabethtown store measured 19-by-67 feet and was a “farmers store.” It sold an array of household goods and clothing. Less than two years after opening the store, Isaac Leinwand moved the store two doors down into what is now the men’s department.

Shortly after the move, a fire destroyed several businesses along with Leinwands store. With the help of his brother, Leinwand rebuilt his store and it re-opened in 1939.

in 1947, Ricky Leinwand’s father Wallace took over the business. Wallace Leinwand married Shirley Gintel and they became primary partners in running the store. Isaac Leinwand continued to have an active role in the business until about 1970.

Ricky Leinwand calls his mother the real key to the business.

“Another key to the success was daddy got involved in the community and eventually became mayor,” Ricky said.

Ricky Leinwand has followed his father’s advice on becoming involved in the community. He serves on the town council and is involved in many community service groups. He’s also one of the voices of East Bladen High Eagles football, and has been for years.

“We were the only Jewish family in the county and this community has been good us to us. It wasn’t always easy, but getting involved made it easier,” said Leinwand.

He added that he has gotten to know many of his customers very well over the years and that personalized service helps keep his customers returning to the store.

The best people, professional, friendly, polite, happy, just a great atmosphere, especially when you're getting ready to spend some money. I would spend my money there any day with the great down home folks at Leinwands . Y'all have a Blessed New Year! Thanks for all the years.! Sincerely, Wendy Finnegan
Awesome selection and amazing service!
First time ever getting a suit for my son's prom!! I was completely lost and they did an awesome job helping me in what I was looking for!! They had you in and out, in no time!! Great first experience and great service!! If your looking for a suit for any occasion, this is the best place to go!!
I love this store so much. I live in Eden NC and I always go to Leinwand’s while on vacation at white Lake. I love the great selections of clothes ,footwear and Yeti cups, coolers. The customer service here is excellent. Please check this store,,I promise you will glad you did.
I recently got married and we got our men’s attire from Leinwand’s. The suits were well tailored and the team at this place ensured that they fit everyone perfect. We had 10 groomsmen and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience when renting a large order. Everyone looked amazing in their suits. Their package deals are so affordable and they beat the price of everyone else that I quoted! They even included shoes to go with suits in the package. The customer service was unbelievable! If we ever have another event that we need suit attire I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I also didn’t realize all the things they have available in the store for even everyday use! Highly impressed!
Needed wedding clothes for teen boys. Fast. We’re procrastinators and they hate “fancy” clothes. Walmart didn’t have them. Well, they might have somewhere other than the clothes racks. But there were no blue vests around to ask. So driving away from the big box, we get onto the “Main Street” of Elizabethtown—which said Big Box evidently has not yet murdered. There’s this little place on the left. Maybe a chain, but not a big one. At least not a big box one. The shoe guy 20s? 30s? masks make it even harder to tell was awesome. He took his time. He was very indulgent with their quirks. Then the woman-of-a-certain-age shirt & pants lady took over. More awesomeness. And they steamed the shirts & hemmed the pants they hemmed the pants… mind blown right there & then… and Gratis! Nice place. Nice product selection. Great people. And the ladies at the wedding were so impressed with the boys clothes. Bonus.
They were awesome, I felt like Ric Flair when I left, a custom made man.....Whoooo
Wonderful hometown clothing store!
Ricky and his staff went above and beyond to help our family prepare last minute for one of our family members funerals. Great people, great service, and great prices.
Owner deliberately marked up the price from $39.95 to $44.95 once at the register. Additionally, when I asked if they offered Active Duty military discount, he said he would take off 10%. He ended up giving me 10% off the original price of $49.95, not the new $44.95 sale price nor the original sale price of $39.95. Our family always stop here on our way to or from White Lake, but this shop will not be getting my business from this point forward. Nothing worse than maliciously cheating your customers.
