Nice free guided tour of the historic Stanford Mansion. No food, drinks, photography, or touching of anything allowed inside. I went on a weekday during the middle of summer and they had tours at the top of every hour. There are no self guided tours, and you must sign up for a tour at the tour office behind and to the left of the building. I gave this tour 4 stars because for some unknown reason they don't allow pictures inside. The tour takes you through about half of the building and lasts about 45 minutes. You learn about the history of the building and the people who lived there. It was very interesting and informative, and great for those enjoy history.
Stumbled upon this little gem or not so little-- the mansion is over 19,000 sf! while out taking a walk in the beautiful downtown Sacramento! I did not know that Leland Stanford Stanford University had first lived in Sacramento! I learned a lot. There was a free tour by Eric, who was very knowledgeable. Beautiful mansion and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there!
Such a beautiful place. It's hidden in-between all the other buildings around it, but I'm glad I found it. The inside is even more breathtaking than the outside. This is truly a hidden gem. The staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. I learned so much by taking a tour. I highly recommend visiting here if you're in the area.
Went on one of the free tours and it was an awesome experience. They have more than 40 rooms in the 4 floors. The tour guide shows you at least 15 rooms. So cool to see all the old furniture and the ancient pianos!! Our guide was Cindy and she was very welcoming and knowledgeable. Worth a visit if you are in the area!
In among high rise and government buildings sits this house of one of California's early governors, a funder of the transcontinental railroad, and founder of Stanford University. Such a good use of some time when visiting Sacramento because it is a peek into the early year's of this town and California's statehood. The tour is approximately one hour and it is free. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the Stanford family and their contributions. Tours are in the hour and given daily. We went when there were signs closing off the sidewalk to the entrance. Ignore the ßigns in order to get into the anion grounds.
Such a great tour. Joseph was extremely knowledgeable and curated an interesting story. We only get to see a bit of it tho. Definitely a go to for visiting Sac.
This is a must see! This mansion had an incredible history and fascinating design. The tour is free and worth it to go inside. You can't take pictures inside but it is amazing.
Free! Fcfs tours at the top and bottom of the hour. We were the last tour before they closed early due to the thunderstorm. Street parking was free on Sundays. Best free experience ever! Recommend to anyone with about an hour to spare in Sacramento!
Incredible Victorian house! Much of furnishings are original and the restoration was meticulous. Great tour and it was free. Staff was friendly and helpful. Only downside was that no photos are allowed on the inside but we received a small photo book as a momento of our visit. I highly recommend a visit! Thanks!
Stumbled upon this mansion when walking around in this area. It's free to enter and is beautifully maintained. We got in right in time for a guided tour and the tour was pretty great too. Highly recommend!
