Nice big branch with great programming. We just saw Grammy-nominated artists Wendy and DB. We had a great time. Thank you for hosting.
The staff at this location are attentive, the information area is maintained, and the selection looks to be an okay size. This rest review is about the environment of the library. There's plenty of seating, the lighting is nice, the building and library is clean. That's the good, sadly. I'm 24, an introvert, and I came here to study, and as an anxious person I was unsettled by the amount of men in this library. Not college age men, there were none, but older men, 50 and up, not there reading a book, but either browsing on laptops, making phone calls, or just looking around, possibly sleeping, etc. I'm not comfortable in that environment, it's just how I feel, and it is no fault of the library, but I am making this review so other people are aware of the environment of the library. My history just doesn't allow me to study in a place with these factors; where something just doesn't feel quite right. I witnessed nothing overt [except as outlined below], but in a large space with many open and empty tables, I was at a table with a charger, and a man without a laptop came and sat at the table to make phone calls. There were many empty tables. I got up after about an hour of this, and moved to a different table. He tried to apologize, but I said it was unrelated. Shortly after I moved, and changed my seating direction to face away from him and not be within his line of sight, he gets up to walk around, face me, and sit at various new tables, all facing me, no more phone calls, and just sitting. No book, magazine, anything. He does a cycle of leaving, returning, sitting, standing, walk once around, pace, sit, leave, return, etc. If you know, you know what I am speaking of within this library. There's a reputation, when I spoke to others in my life about this guy they already knew what I was going to say. I haven't been back, and probably won't go back for quite some time. I had gone to study and enjoy being out of my apartment, and I drive so I appreciate the parjing lot, but a recurring theme in some Chicago libraries seems to be this. It's extremely unsettling, and it feels gross. And as a note: I don't take making this review lightly. This happened months ago. I wish I could only say good things.
It's okay as far as quietness is concerned. All the books are nicely organized. Some of the staff are friendly, not all of them. My issue is the bathroom. There's only ONE for the women, ONE for the men. You have to ask for the key at the front counter. Otherwise you wait if it's occupied. When there's a long line forget it.
If you have a kid, please avoid this library. The children's librarians are rude, judgemental, and snobby. Doesn't matter if your kid is sitting quietly and not making noise if someone is, they get scowled at and asked to be quieter.
Nice library near DePaul's Lincoln Park campus. WiFi is pretty good, and the staff are friendly.
Anne or Ann? was super helpful at this branch! I didn’t realize the computers weren’t accessible 30 min. before closing and Anne offered to print my document for me behind the counter free of charge. She was super quick, helpful, and kind given the fact that it was last minute on my part. Definitely ask for her if you need assistance!
I love this place! It's an important refuge in our neighborhood, a hub for information, a quiet space, an after-school haven, a place to scan the new books shelves, pick up a video, or read with a toddler. The librarians are top-notch-especially Mary Jo. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and kind. A 5-star shout out for all they continue doing! Thank you!
Great library with quiet work places that can easily be utilized to set up a laptop and essentially an office away from work. The books found here may not be the most up to date and they may not have everything but their book sharing program with other libraries is phenomenal and they can easily have a book brought to the them or put on hold for you to pick up at another location. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and is always happy to help. However, they will look strictly at you if your phone accidentally goes off. Oops.
I love books and the library, but every time I exit this place, I always have a frown on my face. I go to the library after school and all the staff are horrible. The librarian is very unfair and rude. I was once accused of taking a photo without the permission of a security guard. Without evidence, I was kicked out of the library for about 3 days with no place to sit down and do my homework after school. Speaking of the security guard, she is very rude, unnecessary, and irritating. She does way too much and is very hypocritical. The African American at the front desk is very rude and slow. He takes too long to do little things and he's always rolling his eyes. I don't think that somebody so ignorant and rude should be at the front desk. Another older lady who works at the desk is very nosy and rude, she talks when she isn't spoken too and she's very demanding. I can count on my fingers how many nice people there is at the library. I don't think this experience would be for every body, but it's mine. I will try my hardest to never return here again because it just isn't working out for me. I gave it 1/5 stars because for that fact that they have books and I love books. Just saying if you go to the library, make sure they don't treat you disrespectfully and check them if they do.
Convenient location with parking and a later hours a few evenings per week. In stock books are limited, but the book sharing service will pull books from across the city. Kids play area features blocks, puzzles, and a cute play kitchen that all keep my 2-year-old wrangled while I pick up our holds. Friendly staff. The downside is the lack of great handicap or stroller-friendly entrance. There is no ramp they built one and tore it down? and a verrrrry slow elevator.
