The workers here are so mean and scary. The check in is so scary. No wonder my anxiety goes through the roof when forced to come here for jury duty. We are already, scared and nervous going into this place. Scared to death of the police..Then that guy Abraham comes in the room to talk to everyone, is very abrasive and he yells. Why are they so harsh with, people who don't deserve to be treated, that way? After all we are there to doing something that we don't get anything for, except getting spoken to in a mean manner. I wonder how they would feel if a close member of their family was treated so badly?
The general lack of humanity shown by these people when you run into an emergency is astounding. Not only have I had my own personal experience now but this is the same court that told my best friends mom not even a month after his death that he would need to appear in court last year despite the fact they were told he was deceased and still issued a warrant on a dead man regardless of the fact they were told he was dead. I don't know how that's upholding justice but it seems to me like they don't even see you ad an actual person.
Contrary to what a previous review stated there was easy bike parking in the courtyard. The bike lanes on 13th and 14th were also a pleasant surprise. This doesn't seem like the forum for commenting on jury duty, so the five stars are more a reflection of how nice the building is
The juror summon process was nailed down every step of the way. You’re told exactly what to do and what to expect. Make sure to call the jury office the day before to see if your number is within the range of numbers summoned. If not, don’t come. If you’re wondering if you’ll get in trouble if you arrive a few minutes past 8 AM, the answer is no. The first announcement of what to expect came at around 8:15 AM and the first call of juror number selection came around 8:45 AM for me. They passed out RTD passes at the beginning of the process. You’re allowed up to 2 RTD passes a day to use to get to and from the courthouse. The large room that they put us in had a distinct unpleasant musty smell. There was construction outside so I could hear the faint beeping noises of construction equipment. There were vending machines for snacks and bottled water but I did not spot a water fountain. I’m painting this picture for you so that you know to come prepared. Bring noise-cancelling headphones, a full water bottle, snacks, and entertainment, and you will be far less irritated that you’re spending the day there. They told us that we’d be dismissed if our number wasn’t called for a trial by noon. My number was called so I can’t judge whether you’d be let out before then, but from the pace by which they were working, I do think you’d get out sooner than noon if your number hadn’t been picked yet. In general, everyone working at the courthouse was very acknowledging of the time commitment required to be at jury duty. There were many instances of “thank you for being here. We understand that you might not want to be but it’s important for our justice system.” It was fascinating to be in the courtroom and going through the jury selection process. Since my number was called third to last, I was not part of the initial 12-person selection group. It would’ve taken a lot for me to even make it on there since there were quite a few people ahead of me. Alas, I was still seated in the courtroom and witnessed the jury selection process. The trial was declared a mistrial for reasons not elaborated on so everyone was let out before 11 AM. Overall, it was not a bad experience, and I wouldn’t dread it the next time I’m requested for jury duty.
JURY DUTY?? READ THIS!: Process was pretty straightforward. Security can get busy so get there by 730 earlier if you like to sit in the back. There’s an assembly area and a small lounge if you want to make a call or need a table to do work. Wifi is DenverGuest and is free don’t plan on streaming but it wasn’t bad. Coffee shop has some food breakfast tacos and yogurt, snacks and coffee, water, etc. Parking can be expensive if you’re willing to pay..but there’s an $8 lot a couple of blocks away. RTD or getting dropped off or bike if you’re close enough, there’s racks on the side is the way to go. RTD passes are free when you get in but you’ll have to pay to get there and then get a reimbursement one. Can get cool or warm depending on the season, so wear layers or bring a light jacket. Staff was very polite and helpful! You can bring your laptop or pad and work or do whatever while you wait. Until you’re in the courtroom if selected to be in the pool, then everything needs to be off. All in all, not bad. PS: if you’re sneezing or coughing, feel free to bring tissues or wear a mask.
Jessica, a security guard at the entrance with the metal detectors, is an incredible person based on her kindness, attentiveness and caring. She assisted me without hesitation, guided to the elevators, helped me find my courtroom and even actively listened and went above and beyond. I was using a walker and oxygen at the time. During a difficult time, it was refreshing to have someone care.
And I did vote NO on every judge in the recent election! Please vote NO on every judge in every election. They all need to be fired. Old review: Why can't we give zero stars?? Lindsey-Flanigan made sure jury duty pretty much sucked. Food choices: "There are vending machines on every floor." There's not one ounce of healthy food in those vending machines, not even a bag of peanuts. I needed a phone number to make a call, the security in the lobby were friendly and helpful, and referred me to an office where I could get help. The woman sitting behind the plexi couldn't even stand up to make herself say hello to me. I asked for the number, she looked at her computer, and then handed me a piece of paper with the phone number under the plexi. Not one speck of communication. Nada, zilch. She couldn't even stand up out of her chair. She needs to be fired. Judge Baumann is slow. He didn't treat me fairly. The court ran out of time to question my response to the court's questionnaire. From what Judge Baumann told us, more important people needed a break, I assume a potty break. Following their break I was forced to sit for two hours in a pew in the gallery that could have been designed by Marquis de Sade. Judge Baumann didn't make time for any of us bozos to have a potty break. As a victim of violent crime, I can't understand how I was called for a murder case in the first place. Judge Baumann needs to be fired. Why can't the Justice Center make sure there's free parking for us on jury duty? I always see empty parking lots on the west side of Lindsey-Flanigan. Ever think of buying some of the lots around the courthouse, hiring someone at the gate, let us show them our summons, and then giving us a place to park?? They suggest RTD. RTD: REASON TO DRIVE. The people running LIndsey-Flanigan need to be fired. Jury duty in Denver is a regretful, deameaning experience. In the past, I've approved judges in elections. The court tells jurors how important we are, yet we're nothing more than dirt under their feet. Next election, they all get a "NO" vote. Every last one of them. They all need to be fired.
They want you to take RTD to get there because there isn’t enough parking but won’t let you take a skateboard in nor will they store it. Homies running the security check were super chill about it but the policy needs reviewed. There are armed guards in the courtroom with guns, why are they concerned about a skateboard. The chairs inside the room can be used as a weapon. Same with my laptop or my shoes or my belt.
Went here for jury duty. The commissioner was professional, but security confiscated my keychain pocket knife and were rude when I asked for it back. It would be nice if they had security who wasn’t scrawny burnouts and could speak English.
The security will search every woman's property at will then confiscate whatever they want. I ride the bus and have had tweezers, a sharpie marker and numerous other "contraband" items thrown away because of plain ignorance. I have come with almost completely empty purses and still have to show them the interior contents. Why do the xray machines exist? Every court room is a circus. The attorneys speak amongst themselves loudly throughout proceedings. Disrespecting plantiffs, victims and judges. Ruining any chances of discretion or actual justice to occur. This court house makes a mockery of our justice system. I have to laugh to keep from crying. God help us all who live in this state and especially Denver.
