Seatuck’s Little Peepers Forest School, started in 2014, is Long Island’s first nature-center based half day forest school. We are outside every day!
Seatuck’s Little Peepers Forest School is the first nature-center based half day “forest” school in Suffolk County. The school implements a holistic, nature and play based educational approach, combining the best practices in a broad range of educational techniques interwoven with a traditional preschool curriculum. We use the natural world as the guiding theme when we present science, art and music, math, language and literacy, dramatic play and other curriculum areas. Our teachers understand that education should be acknowledged as the art of cultivating the moral, emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of the developing child.
Children at Little Peepers experience a nurturing, playful, literacy-rich program filled with wonder and joy. There is an emphasis on nature, imaginative play and meaningful work to ensure a joyful start to a lifelong learning journey. Our approach caters to the personal interest and learning style of each individual and develops respect for people and nature, while preparing them for their continued school life. To accomplish this, we will provide children with daily opportunities to develop cognitively, socially, emotionally and physically, and developing pre-reading and math skills. Each child will be given the opportunity to establish a sense of confidence, responsibility, self-discipline and social grace through experiences in the natural world, the classroom and with other children. Our program wishes to instill a deep sense of wonder and a desire for self-directed learning through thought -provoking, interesting and meaningful outdoor experiences. By creating an environment where children are given experiences that will inspire their curiosity, their ability to question, reason and recall new things will naturally improve.
It's like having a field trip every day!
