Lona's Lil Eats

About

Asian-inspired cuisine in St.Louis devoted to Kebobs, Thai Spring Rolls, and Wraps.

Description

Lona’s LiL Eats, a St Louis restaurant and catering service, is home to the Giant Rice Paper Wrap. We specialize in fresh Asian cuisine with a soul-food flare. We focus on more than just flavor; we focus on feeling and physical sensation. We use fresh ingredients just chopped, absolutely NO MSG, make all our seasonings and sauces from scratch- from peeling the garlic, roasting peanuts, on up. Our food is filling, but won’t leave one feeling heavy, with flavors so grounded in excitement that the last bite is the most delicious, for real!
Lona’s LiL Eats began in 2008 as an experimental project using just one gas-grill in Soulard Farmers Market. The name, Lona’s LiL (little) Eats, is a literal translation from Chinese for roughly “a hole-in-the-wall selling stop-and-go food place.” The original intention was to bring a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant into the Market. Well not really Thai in any familiar sense, but this is the United States- you gotta have an eye-catcher!
While the stand at Soulard Farmers Market remains open every Saturday lunch, we now have a brick-and-mortar shop that owners Pierce and Lona live above with their two children Jane and Daniel.
The menu comprises of options that were formed organically through participation with Soulard Farmers Market patrons. So while Lona’s LiL Eats serves food in several novel forms, these forms were not creations obsessively planned, but rather obsessively intuited from the social experience between Lona, Pierce, and creative (demanding? Is there a difference?) fans.

Trendy place located in a historic neighborhood of St. Louis. The food is prepared fresh with an eye to freshen, flavor and texture. Most items come with a sauce. This is where I suggest caution. Anything marked as spicy is very hot to the mouth and tongue. However there are other options not so perilous. They do have diet soda, but it is in small print on the soda dispenser. I liked the diet cola I tried, even though I was unfamiliar with the brand. The serving dives are large. I had to get a takeout box to get my leftovers home. The staff were very helpful and present when we needed them. Wheelchair accessibility: Located on the first floor with wheel chair access. Bathrooms may be on a different level, however.
Wow. Wow. Wow. I literally have nothing else to say. This place is absolutely incredible. First time in today & the food did NOT disappoint. Staff are super friendly & walked us through the menu. I built my own wrap with the rice paper, stir fried glass noodles, and chicken and it was sooooo so good. The side stir fried veggies were a little bland/oily but honestly when my burrito finally burst at the bottom, I just mixed everything together and it was great. & the dumplings omg ‍ Will definitely be coming back.
I ordered a create your own plate with white rice and steak for $10.75. This was a good sized portion to eat. The sauce I chose was a bit too spicy for my liking. Also would have liked to add more veggies but overall a healthy dinner!
The chicken Thai wrap was 10/10 and the steak wrap was good as well! Also the pickled cucumber salad is great. Loved the atmosphere and food. Will be back!Food: 5/5
I like how basic the menu is. Plenty of options on how you have it, but not overwhelming. Had the lemon grass turkey wrap and egg plant. Delicious! Except the wrap fell apart towards the end. Really fun place!
YUMMY!!!! I love this place soooo much. The food was AMAZING, the workers were very friendly. Literally, words can't describe this place. Please please go and try their food. You will thank me later oh make sure to try their lona-q sauce!!!Recommended dishesBig Thai Chicken Wrap, Tortilla, Wraps, Stir-Fried Glass Noodles, Lona-Q Sauce, Big Thai Wrap, Steak Dumplings
I love this place! Vegan and gluten free options! We come visit this restaurant every time we are in town! Vegetarian options: Vegan too! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free!
Great place in fox park! Really enjoyed walking over the other night from our Airbnb. Prices are reasonable, service was excellent, and the overall friendly vibe made this a great experience. Adult beverages are for sale as well. The menu is varied with several vegan and vegetarian options of their Asian fusion cuisine. As always, you simply can’t go wrong with smoked brisket. A real must try if you’re in the area!
This was an amazing experience! The food was great! We tried several different things and they were all wonderful. My favorite was the turkey with the Lona Q sauce. The staff was unbelievably helpful. Since it was our first time there they even talked us through all of the options.Recommended dishesStir-Fried Glass Noodles, Potstickers
The Compton neighborhood is quite lovely. Nice outdoor seating on a quiet neighborhood street. The staff is lovely and super patient, not just with us but other new customers as well. The food is southeast Asian based, "simple" and delicious. We ordered the chicken glass noodle with peanut sauce and another two but with tofu and lemongrass sauce. Everyone gobbled it up. The sauteed mustard green, eggplant, spicy noodle, and peanut cabbage salad all were great! Awesome find.
